I'm assuming that they're being ordered as we speak, but you probably wont see any in the wild for at least a year given Dingwall's enormous lead time lmao

The fact that they are at least planning production, as it seems, helps in my bass gear purchasing strategies.

I don't understand the radio silence about this. If this is true, why not announce it properly? When they say, "do you like this?" and people answer (I assume with a resounding yes), it seems odd to wait 2 years without hearing boo. Even if you said "Everyone loves it, because of X, we will likely release it Y".

It takes a long time to bring a product to market. Dingwall isn't a big company by any means, so they have to balance their backlog, with the overseas that move through the shop, with new model development. And that's not even including everything else like artist relations/support, typical business needs, all the eventing and so on. Unfortunate for us that Dingwall isn't the size of Apple and can release something new every year on the same release date (or nearly so), but, I also don't think having instruments be _that_ commoditized would really be a positive thing. It's not easy to expand physical manufacturing, and with the... let's just say general instability recently injected, the risks are elevated for small business as well.

Can you elaborate? You can buy them right now. The overall "hype" has lowered, but that's fairly typical product release lifecycle at play.

After Hellboy, the bridge and the fast track seems best to add 2 years min onto any releases, probably closer to 3-4.

It’s pretty readily available all over the internet. I’d speculate that it is a smaller release to a smaller market though. And dwarfed in comparison to the SP1

Thanks for the link to Sweetwater; I hadn't seen that cuz I'm not a Sweetwatwr customer and I never look at their website. I just hadn't seen anything on the Dingwall site after the intro video came out a while back.

I totally get all that, I just think it would make more sense to tell people "we heard you - we're gonna do it - it will take a little while". Though maybe they are doing that elsewhere and I just don't hear it. I also agree that turning Dingwall basses into a commodity (or just a "pump them out" kind of bass company) wouldn't be helpful, but it is frustrating sometimes that they have always had backlog issues. I've been playing Dingwalls for 15 years and this issue has never gone away, only lessened slightly.

The DW guys told me at the Guitar Summit last year they they’re looking to expand their team this year to be able to reduce the wait time of their custom orders.

I won’t say any numbers that they mentioned but it was a considerable increase in production

As a fellow friend of the avian Dingwalls who, coincidentally, has an additional 3X switch lying around: Did you experiment with the individual pickups' series/parallel configuration? What did you decide on? (Also: Did you switch to 3X - no pun intended - before switching to the SFs or in the same instant?)
Sorry for all the questions but I‘ve been hemming and hawing for weeks and my ABHS with 3X and toggles has only been half-helpful, as it has FD3s.

I did the 3x first. Mainly because the neck and bridge together is what I use most. I did no experiment bc I was more matching to the same settings I use on my ABZ. The SF II’s came later.

Now that you mention it, I can't exactly remember because my tech installed it. I just opened up the cavity and took a picture if that helps.

Thanks, that’s great! Looks like all the green and black wires are bending away from the screw terminal, only white/red/clear going in? That would be all pickups in series. Food for thought!

Yes, that is what it looks like. My guess is that is how the DBird was wired and my tech kept it like that when he put the 3X in. Now, that got me curious and I opened up my ABZ and AB1. They are both as they came from the factory as far as I know.

The ABZ (3x, FDV, Darkglass) appears to be wired the same way.

The ABI (3x, SFII, Neve preamp) however is wired differently.
