I don't think there is a single place that a Super P5 can't take me. OK, well maybe Death Bluegrass, but I imagine I could dial up something in a pinch.

My first Dingwall, my AB1 came from Bass Central, and took some abuse along the way. It must have been dropped headstock down from a height, because the tip of the headstock tried to break its way through the end of the SKB Freedom case that they come with. The case still shows damage in the metal flange at that end, which is bent and pushed out. The bass itself saw very slight scuffing to the tip of the headstock, luckily mostly protected due to the foam and lining in the case.

The bigger problem was UPS forging a signature and leaving a ~2K$ bass on my front porch, about 10 feet from a busy street and sidewalk in an urban setting.

What a heartbreaker. El-stinko!

Being in the transportation industry, I scratch my head when I witness poor packaging (not pointing any fingers at anyone here). Nowadays, you have to really package something well because many people just don't give a rat's behind in handling your cargo anymore.

I agree with BuffaloBob's assessment that a swan dive occurred at some point. Often times, cartons that are thin and light are chucked up to the heavenly places in a semi-trailer when loading (And it don't matter how many fragile stickers you've used). When unloading, loads shift and stuff falls. It could very well be that another medium-sized carton tumbled down from on high onto the Dingwall.

Furthermore, it depends on the traffic lanes a carton goes through. A carton going from point A to point B may be handled multiple times as it is passed from various shipping hubs on the way to it's final destination. One path through the country may see far less damage (due to staff professionalism, freight levels, times package handled, etc.) than another path through the country. This is a carrier-wide problem that fluctuates every year.

In the end, sometimes it's a coin toss as to whether damage will occur -- no matter how well it is packed.

Granddesign, here's hoping you will have a pristine Dingwall in the stable in short order!

I found my Super J in the neighbor's carport, a block over on a street with a different name. I decided to take a walk, and have a look around, after the brown truck went past my house twice and my bass's tracking went from "out for delivery" to "delivered"! I get the neighbor's VW parts at my house all the time. I guess the guy has a deal with the driver to drop without any signature. Our UPS guy is a little lost, but he's cool with the dogs and brings biscuits.

I bought a new guitar from Zzounds, and it came double boxed but with minimal packing materials. I was kind of surprised, but there was no damage. All of my used Dingwalls have arrived looking like they were going for the "best packing job overkill" prize.

Sorry to see a damaged bass. I'd give em a chance to put things right.

I pulled a Billy Sheehan and drove 6 inch eye bolts in to the bass. ;).

They are either Fender or Schaller. All my basses have them so I use the same strap for every bass. It's got my g50 transmitter attached.

I have tried the push button release type and they are very dangerous in the heat of gig battle. Twice I disco'd them. These you have to pull. In addition they are grooved so they hold even if the pin didn't quite seat.

I can take a close up if you like.
