It is being delivered to Bass San Diego today, and they're going to try to get it out to me today as well. So should be towards the end of next week.
BTW, I love that Sheldon has black string trees to match the black hardware.

I didn't notice that at first look, but then I think Sheldon's attention to such detail will always be better than mine.

I've been trying to imagine that beauty in the extra Baltic amber pg with reverse P orientation. Right now, I can't imagine how I would want to ever take off the tort guard. It would be like removing the raspberry sauce from the chocolate sundae.
Got me DAS ing for my SP5. Come on July/Aug

Seems like I haven't been out this thread in weeks. Lots of catching up to do.
I have been working my butt off, much of it bass related. Funny that when I'm busy woodshedding, rehearsing, and playing, I have nothing to piss and moan about.
I have spent a tremendous number of hours on both the Super P5 and Super J5. The other day I found myself trying to figure out that if I was only able to retain just one of the basses, which would it be. The answer is that it is just not possible. Both basses are so good in their own right, that I just cant imagine not being able having them both. They are essentially fraternal twins. Clearly cut from the same cloth, with each specializing.
For grip and rip events, or needing the fattest bass tone possible, The Super P5 through my big rig crushes. If I am playing a ton of mid/upper register stuff, Than the Super J5 is untouchable.
In the end, which is the best Dingwall? All of them !

Seriously though, all of this is why I love my AB1. I had my first friday/saturday gig this past weekend with the new bass. Neck pick up is very Pbass tone. Pups in series is like an UBER P tone. Series is like a fat Jbass tone. Bridge alone is everything I love about the attack on my MM basses. Add in the BluEQube for slotting in the mix, and it is crazy versatile. I really cant see needing more.... but I am a greedy basstard and already have my eye open for another 37" model.

Nope, And I'm not sure I need too. I am so comfortable on the the Super series basses that I can pick up either with my eyes closed and not worry about clamming due to scale length change. I have incredible FoH support, setting aside my stage rig, so the 37 cant possibly be so significantly better that it warrants the additional investment. Better ? Maybe or probably. Enough to warrant kicking my Super series to the curb. Not possible.
I'm playing better gear than most pros. Shifting my focus from chasing gear to theory, timing, and dynamics.
Don't get me wrong. I am in no way knocking the 37's. But, spend a bunch of hours on the 35's and you'll understand why I remain unconcerned that I am missing something better.
I guess the one strange thing is that as much time as I spend on the Low B in the PW/CC genre, you'd think that a 37 would be a necessity in my life. But that is just not the case.

I have my 5 string Voodoo, so my P was free to be the trad 4 string. I like playing a 4 when the song don't call for no 5. I'm doing country right now, can you tell?
Besides, I love Sheldon's 4 string basses as much as his 5s. They are highly underrated.
Bob, I have made the switch to 5's out of necessity. And frankly, my brain is too small to jump back and forth between 4's and 5ers.
Trust me, if I could get away with playing 4's, I'd be running the same models I do now.
I hear ya. Im the same way with the any of the 37's. But that's a slippery slope just like the 35's.
First you get a Combustion. Then you have to have an AB 1. Then a Sklar. And the next thing you know, you're homeless pushing a shopping cart full of Dingwall basses around town and collecting aluminum cans while you wait for your Voodoo Prima to arrive.

I welcome back the busy Zoom-man and echo his sentiments re: the 'medium scale' Dingwall line - for me, they are the most perfect bass guitars in creation.

Ken, it has been crazy in the best possible sense. So busy that if I don't have one of the Dings hanging around my neck, I feel like I left my wallet and cell phone at home.
I just got back from LIFT and it was beyond amazing. Got to sit in (sit in meaning view) Christian Stanfill's rehearsal / sound check. Unbelievable how they operate. I'll send you a PM later today. It is mind boggling.

But there are a few things that are suggestive of traditional, like split coil pup, body shape and pick guard. Oh yeah, and you can have them as a traditional 4 strings!
