Dingwall Owners Club

Inquiring minds WILL want to know!!

I'm picking it up from him in two hours and literally heading straight to sound check at the LA Pride festival, I'll certainly give everyone an update over the weekend...I also have a reverse routed guard for it, so after putting the traditional setup through it's paces I'll probably swap them before deciding which way to keep it ;)

Oh well. As far as I know, a new batch of Combusions is in the works, with many improvements, and that might even be cheaper. Holding out for those ones might not be a bad idea anyway.

On that topic, I started saving up for the Combustion when it was originally announced years ago. It got delayed time and time again (for a good reason, the actual Combustion was much better than the early prototype) and, eventually, I had enough saved up to get a used AB-II. I did and, looking back, I like how that turned out.

I recall someone checking D'Addario years ago (not sure which model) and the length of the B string was hit-and-miss. Sometimes the B would taper just before the nut, making the B string unplayable. That said, these production details vary over time and maybe it's better now. Maybe not.

I've currently got a set of D'Addario XL "super long scale" on my AB1, they fit perfectly.

The DR's work on the long scale four strings, but are about a half inch too short for the long scale 5 strings.

DR has an extra-long .125 High Beam available, either as a single or in a set (LMR5-45). No other gauges, no other types though ( no Lo Rider, Sunbeams, etc.).

I've had the DR LMR5-45 set on my AB1, they fit perfectly, but were a bit bright for my taste at the time.

I'm not sure which set of strings it was, I'm thinking they were D'Addario regular long scale, but I have had a B string that was just a little short - just before the nut, it was narrowed by one winding. The fix is to put a small piece of shrink tubing on the string right where it crosses the nut to bring the diameter back up. I've found that Radio Shack shrink tubing sets up pretty hard; I could not tell any damping or loss of tone using this fix.

It's actually the only use I have for Radio Shack shrink tubing.o_O
Hate the stuff for actual wiring - it's very hard, stiff, and shiney.

Has Dingwall increased their prices recently? I just saw an ABZ for $2700 on Bass Central :jawdrop:

I noticed that as well. Bass central went and jacked all the prices up on the ones they already had in stock.

Emailed them once and they wouldn't work with me on a price so I never been back there.

If other retailers can work with you on price they can too. They obviously did not want my money.

Go there every so often just to poke around and look for new pics for comparison, that's about it for me.

Same here...DR's are actually the only string I've heard Sheldon specifically recommend if you aren't using his strings ;)

I've used both nickel and steel Lo-Riders as well as Hi-Beams on my Super P and they all sound and feel killer...speaking of which, Maurilio from Nordstrand just finished the route and install of the bridge FD3, so technically it's now a Super PJ...I get to pick it up tomorrow :DView attachment 428890

I'm halfway through my wait for my Super PJ, I'm actually doing just fine (probably helps that I have a Regular Super P) but dang seeing that has gotten me roled up again.

Now that's funny. I bought my ABZ from them a couple of years ago and even got a $100 discount without asking.

I was just shocked to see such a price jump. :D

That's good you got a $100 off. I inquired on the fiesta red/maple Super p 4 back when they had it listed for $2800ish.

Email I received just said that all they could do was give me some strings. It's all good. That was just my experience. I'm sure others have got some good deals.
