I'm not big on having a lot of different basses- I prefer to get to know 1 or 2 really, really well.

Still, I must confess to some nostalgia as I read about all these orders approaching their delivery dates. I well remember the anticipation when my ABZ was enroute last fall. Also the excitement when it arrived, and turned out to exceed even my inflated expectations!

Ahh very cool. Was wondering, would you say that you prefer a low action in general? I used to like a med/low action (and med/light strings) with some buzz noticeable acoustically but minimal unless I dug in really hard when amplified. The SJ5 I have came with med strings and action a bit higher but with Zero buzz unless I really really dig in. The strings felt stiffer to me (across all the strings, especially D & G) than what I used to be used to on a parallel fretted bass but I have grown used to it and kind of prefer it now.

I tried the DR flats on my 76 J, dug the sound but they seemed just a little stiff. I hear the TI flats aren't as stiff, so I hope they work well for me on the SPF5, especially given the cost. :-) May call up Bassstringsonline today and pull the trigger.

My super j arrived with perfect, super low action, and stock Dingwall stainless strings. I wasn't ready for action that low. I raised it a bit, and put on some DR Hellborgs, nickel rounds, with the Dingwall B.

Over the past years my touch has gotten lighter and the action had come back down.

The TIs are easy on the hands, and have a great woody tone. They just keep getting better after the new string zing starts to fade.

Ash/maple Super P5 with and FD3 in the bridge. Black pearl blocks, chrome hardware and a special color that I'm going to keep a surprise until its done.

Basically a fancier version of my PZ5 with a bridge pickup. Love the bass and how it sounds, but definitely miss the bridge pickup and I never did really love black bassses

Very good decision indeed, and I am sure your choice of colour will be a special one. I am thrilled... can't wait to see it, two weeks time is not a long time after all. Happy new bass day when you get it.

As for me. I just can't seem to have anymore gas (or das) for anything else, I seemed to have it all covered and am so pleased with my 3 Dingwalls that I have no desire for another, although I must confess, I nearly pencilled the idea in my head to get one of those triple pickup ABZ but when I tried one at Bass Direct, I found that the pickup in the middle filled up an area where my fingers usually pluck and anchor, the thing is, I am not a pick player so those pickups were so close together that the lack of gap in the middle made me feel very uncomfortable, so sadly that was a no for me, but I am keeping a constant eye open on whatever next comes out of the genius of Sheldon & Co.

I think I would have the same problem with a three-pickup instrument. I couldn't be happier with my stable, but one model I would like to take for a 'test drive' would be the new SJ with the FD3's in the 60's position and all of the coil switching options. :)

I would be the opposite. Being one of "those" players with a ramp between pickups, a third pickup would feel right. I used to have a very hard playing style, but not anymore - I noticed how much better I sounded with a lighter touch. Having a ramp-pickup stopping my plucking really helps with that.

Super PJ5 has arrived. My first thought, seriously is "P" is for perfection. And this coming from a guy who just couldn't get up with the P thing for about 30 years. :) I will post some picks later in the day when the light is better. Order the SPJ5 with the Nickel Strings and just now put a fresh set of stainless on the SJ5 so that I could A/B (or P/J :) ) the strings. My first impressions, 1.) Stunning visually, 2.) Actually feels smoother than the SJ5, though the Stainless on the SJ5 "feel" like they are a larger/stiffer gauge. Action feels lighter lower and still no buzz. Must see if I can get that outta of the SJ5 now, 3. Lots of tonal versatility. Bare with me on the wait/tease on the photos...I want to do it justice.
