I often think that about my bass (once basses) at least it would be quick and easy if they turned up on sale or in a local shop. BUT I know that sometimes these things end up getting repainted, or 'go underground' for a while. But either way, we have an international group here and TB is known throughout the world, so hopefully this helps it get around.

On the topic of strings:

I have not yet changed the Steel's that my were on my the AB1 when @BurningSkies shipped it to me. I have no idea how old they are, or how many hours of playing they had on them before he shipped the bass out, but since then they have had a LOT of playing time. I have a spare set, but I like to always have at least one fresh set, and I plan on soaking the current strings.

So what are my options? Long term I could order some strings and have them shipped in from Canada (Anyone want to group buy? Save a bit on crossing the boarder?). There are a few other vendors of different string options mentioned here as well. Short term, I could find some other set that would work.

What do you all suggest? @groovaholic what do you suggest for local options?

I personally like Sheldon's strings. I used to try to buy from @jive1 out of the DC area when I could but he doesn't always have them on hand. The last time I ended up looking at Bass Central and comparing to Sheldon's pricing, and with shipping costs for 3 sets it ended up being cheaper to get from Dingwall (which I like doing better anyway). The strings that were on your bass when it arrived were pretty close to new. IIRC I put them on but didn't really play them more than maybe 5ish hours, as I play the Rastaburst so much. Soaking them will bring them back to about 90% of new brightness and feel, which is actually where I like them.

If you get a chance, also try out some of Sheldon's nickel strings. I really really like them. I'll probably switch over to them entirely the next chance I get to order.

Also, I know Payson offers a variety of strings for Dingwall basses. I tried one set of nickels fairly early on, but didn't love them, I know he has more options now, so that could be a good thing to look into as well.

D'Addario is currently making his strings now I believe. Might have to take a gander at what they have, that may fit, in the short term. I would also prefer to order strings directly from the shop, as that is more money back to them, but I also hate lining the pockets of the shipping companies.

Yeah, the balancing was the fact that Sheldon sells them cheaper than some of the US sales, so what you lose on shipping you make up on the actual retail cost...AND more money goes to the company.

I really like Payson's nickel rounds. Both the medium lights and the reduced core. I think the reduced core are my favorites. The new Dingwall nickel rounds are nice too.

I buy the Payson's at Bassstringsonline.com.

I don't do stainless strings, so I can't comment on those options.

I'd go with the standard 125 set, unless you plan on occasionally tuning that low B to A

This is just terrible...instrument thefts are always awful, but it's especially cruel when they are this unique and expensive...couldn't have happened to a nicer guy or better player either :thumbsdown:

Felipe Gomez, as seen below producing awesome crazy tones with a B7K and a Dingwall is crossing Canada on a bike to raise some funds for charity.

Who knows, he might be biking near your place, if so, go say hi and lend him a dingwall! He's in Ontario right now and will be around montreal some time in september. When he gets here, I plan on shaking his hand! Who knows he might even hold a clinic around here or something.

And even if you're not into charity I really like his demo because it's just so much different then anything else out there, I know Doug from darkglass shared it on facebook, not sure about Sheldon. But here it is again!
