hey guys im after a bit of advice i live along way from anyplace i can try out a dingwall but am going to buy one anyway.... as the fan fret just makes sense

im either going to get an afterburner or primus but dont get the differences /options

the bass will be used mostly for recording thro a curt emery bass baby

**** up song oriented rock .... no slapping no jazz

any insights very gratefully received thanks

The difference in basic terms is about +6K$, several years wait and a heck of a lot more detail/personal work on Sheldon's part.

In more direct terms, a Prima is as far from a production bass as you can get. The best wood, the finest woodworking the largest attention to detail, the most stunning of the herd with almost limitless options including upgraded electronics.

The Afterburner is a lot closer to a production bass (although on a very small scale). Afterburner I's have alder bodies, maple tops, 5pc maple necks with wenge boards, and passive shop designed and build electronics.

The Afterburner II is similar, with active electronics and walnut body and neck and some different top wood options and chambered body.

Order or buy (they're readily available at some bass retail outlets) an Afterburner and see if you love it. Most of us love ours, even though many of us now have other Dingwalls too.

Once you do decide you love it, then look at your options. Maybe a Z1, 2 or 3 would be right for you...or maybe a Prima Artist is what you want. The wait for my Z-series was almost exactly 3 years, and well worth it. I don't know if the Dingwall wait time has been trimmed, but keep in mind that a Prima has such attention to detail that the wait won't be insubstantial.

I haven't seen a pricing sheet in a few years, but they were on the "very not cheap" side even then...and my Z was also not a discount bass...

Someone has retrofitted Q-Tuners in their Dingwall. I don't remember who, but it's one of the regulars.

Even if I was able to afford a custom Dingwall order, I don't think I could wait that long!! :p I'd rather nail something on the used market. How do you you guys stand the wait?? I was very lucky to have bought my ABII-5 for $1800 used (it was dead mint and a good friend of mine sold it to me)
