While it's definitely a mid-scoop, I think part of the reason it was developed was because the early FD pickups had a bit of a bump in that area and the switch 'smoothed' it out.

Hey man. Knobs are important. Sheldon now thinks I'm nuts because I contacted him to see if I could find a set of the 'old' custom knobs instead of the 'new' custom knobs. Which of course makes me look like some kind of obsessive.
What??...I can barely read this?? seems like I cant see as well as I used too... lol

Orange is my favorite color. Orange on figured maple is just... dammit, will you buy that already so I don't have to keep seeing it?

Actually, the new ones I can't see the damned 'dot' on the face of the knob when I'm playing! The old ones the 'dot' was convex and I could tell my levels just by looking down at the bass, now to see the concave 'dot' I have to lift the bass up a bit to see it. It's only important because I don't crank my bass volume all the way up, but have it set at about 2/3rds of the way so I can bring the volume up or down. Old habits die hard...so if I can get a set of the 'convex marker' knobs it will make a difference on stage.
I noticed that the diameter of the new ones is slightly larger, but that doesn't really matter to me.
Have you thought about coloring in the dimple with a silver Sharpie until you can get the correct knob?

I'm not sure I'll still be able to see it...the option would probably be to color one of the 'edge recesses' so I can see it from above when the bass is strapped on. Or to find a ball bearing and glue it into the current concave marker so it sits above the level surface.

I'd be able to see it under poor stage lighting conditions, certainly. Sort of like Danny Gatton who used to have zircons inset as neck markers.

I know it's a little thing, but it was one of the first things I noticed with the new bass.
Yeah, I use them on a couple of my basses, I get the ones I use from Michaels, a local female type hobby/fabric shop. They come in multi size, multi color half round, self adhesive packs, and are very cheap. I clean the knob with rubbing alcohol before I put them on, and have never had one come off, even using gig bags.
You could also get a Luminlay knob... though that would change the look of the bass. Or get some Luminlay and inlay it into the existing knob.

All good options. Although I'm happy to point out that in the meantime (being the past hour or so), I've had the generosity of Dingwall owners and also the awesome customer service of Sheldon & crew on tap. I've had one of our people here offer up to trade old v. new knobs...and I got word that Sheldon could source me a set of NOS knobs of the kind I like. So awesome on many accounts.
@Sheldon D. is one of the finest individuals in the business, and I'm not surprised to see that his customers and products represent him equally well.
