Yes, for $15 why not; although I bet my other cool white LEDs will charge them - will see come about 6 months or so.

This one has luminlay speedo bars, but in light you won't see them glow. In subdued light you might see some minor luminescence, but they won't really glow until it is quite dark. That is probably pretty sweet actually, now that I think about it.

I was actually a big fan of the sound, except for the fact that it didn't have an off switch hahahaha.... If only I could figure out a way to replicate it in a stomp box

Alright guys. I fixed the problem although I'm not quite sure what the issue was.

I pulled the strings AGAIN and went with string set number 4. Dings in stainless. I very deliberately installed them, exercising care to make sure there were no overlaps, twisting, etc.

I popped the plate off and wiggled wires. No Rice Krispies.

I checked for loose neck bolts, bridge screws, anything that could cause weird harmonics.

Pick ups have not moved and action if anything, is bit higher than I like. Still, I backed them down a hair. Like 1mm tops.

Plugged in and no more warble. Nothing but sweetness and that Dingwall tone.

Talk about losing my mind chasing a tone gremlin on a passive bass. I have never heard anything like that in my life. I was even looking for insane things like hairline cracks, etc.

Ok, I can stop clutching my chest. I've had this bass for a while now. And hundreds of play dates. You can count on it to be perfect every single time you plug it in. I've come to expect that.

I didn't know that the SJ was giving you fits. Are you in the habit of keeping tension on the string as you wind it on the post? (paraphrase of Sheldon's instructions) After many years and many sets of strings, I finally had one go completely 'wonky' on me. Sounded indescribably terrible. It was a Dunlop SS round-wound G on my Super P which I had been playing for a while with no problems. I understand why Sheldon made the change, but I strongly prefer the custom (recessed) tuners and no string retainer setup on my '09 SJ/P. Much easier/simpler to tune. When I'm tuning the ones with string retainers, I have to press gently behind the string retainer to overcome the drag between it and the retainer. I've been tempted to get retainers with rollers but haven't - I just do what has to be done to get it to pitch...

Both 4-string.

Which should I get? I have a Super J5.

That's a pretty loaded question though. Do you want more of the same (similar) or something that can likely be pretty different?

I don't know what you're looking for. If it were me, I would go for the Super P/FD3. That would be because I prefer 19mm string spacing and the more 'classic' tonal palette of the Super Series. But that's me.

Those are FD3's, they look exactly the same as the pickups in my ABZ6.

6-string ABZs use the rounded FD3 pickups; I don't think they make a squared 6-string FD3.
