I look forward to hearing how this works for you. Generally, I like that my Vodoo Prima sounds different from my other Dingwalls due to the Barts. But there are days when I think I still want to put FD3's in it.:rollno: Oh, and a Glock as well.

I've been finding that the Barts are less 'hearable' in the mix for me. They also seem to go deeper and/or have more content in the deep region. There seems to be more 'control' in the lows with the FD3's. While I'm comparing different preamps, I use the Aggie OBP-1 in my rastaburst and use the OBP-2 in the voodoo/prima and the low is centered in the same place with the same amount of boost, and I can hardly goose the bass control on the OBP-2

This thing is an absolute nuke. Three pick ups in series is the best of everything. I can see the love for the Darkglass preamp, the EQ points are way more suited to my play style than the EMG. I am not a slappy/tappy player, so the more mid centered EQ really works for me. Traded out the bwb pick guard for a matte black one.

That three in series has to be pretty ridiculous. Your choice of switch points are probably what I'd do, although I might have chosen middle/neck series as an option too.

I know what you mean. For blues, I hear them fine, but in rock, not so much. I have the three band Bartolini preamp in mine. I can certainly add bass, but i rarely feel the need.

Those Barts are indeed the same size as the older/early FD-3 units. Retrofitting was the best thing ever...pretty much like switching from margarine to real butter.

Hey guys. I would like to add a pre amp to my passive ABZ4... Is this easily done? Tone Capsul/ Glokenglang? Any suggestions? Thanks guys! Is it hard to do? id rather not drill but I have a repair shop by me that i trust enough to do it. Thanks... O also 9v vs 18v ? One is just more output?

I like the Glockenlang preamp in my ABZ-5 a lot. It is very transparent flat, and has a nice range of EQ. The big thing on space is the battery. Sheldon provides a battery compartment in basses that have factory installed preamps, so that it doesn't need to be taking up space in the control cavity. So I would say 9 volt would be better in your case because the battery will have to be squeezed into the control cavity along with the new preamp.

Also, mine is a three band, and I have enough holes drilled for knobs. You may need to go with a 2 band to avoid drilling more holes.

Think its worth having the 3 band drilled in? I have 100% confidence in my guitar luthier. I believe them to be one of the best in NJ. I have been going to him since i was 14 modding my P bass to have a J bass drilled in the bridge. I would love to hear your thoughts! Maybe ill have to order a knob from sheldon!

The previous owner of my old AB1 added a 2 band 9 volt Glockenklang.

When I put the Tone Capsule in my AB1, I used one 9v battery... You could go 18v, but I don't really think that it is needed!
