Is there an ETA on these pickups at all?And the Ptone neck is also in the FDV lineup?

And thanks for the links, I'll check them out tonight!

Not sure on the ETA, Sheldon was kind enough to put a prototype set in my AB after I raved about them at NAMM, and no P Tone yet as far as I'm aware.

That's my dream dingwall right there. I remember an almost identical one listed in the classifieds here some months ago for a very reasonable price. I still regret not selling everything I own to pick that up

There was two of them actually!

One had an alder body instead of ash and the speedo inlays, and the other was also alder without sp switches and with the glock pre instead of the darkglass.

Good Morning fellow Dingwallers.

I'm going to order a SP4 soon so I am going to have to sacrifice my 2000 Voodoo. I wanted to see if there was any interest from club members first before I post her in the Classifieds:

2000, Blackburst, Swamp Ash, Maple neck, Wenge board, Bart 3 band guts and stainless strings. Comes with original hard case and tools. $1950.00 CONUS

It's an incredible instrument but I can't keep them all....

Well damn...any sound clips?

I've been lusting after a Voodoo with barts ever since hearing this:

And that's basically my build! Went trans white instead.

Oh, and you got the Darkglass pre, where I went the Glock.

That build was what finished things for me.

Have you got any new material tracked with the AB?

Funny enough, my AB was supposed to be trans white as well; Barry messed up the order somewhere along the way.

Sheldon offered to build me a new body after it was delivered, but I ended up digging the incredible contrast between the super dark wenge neck and the solid white that I left it as it was

No clips with the AB yet, but I have more sessions coming up and I'll also make some drum and bass grooves to compare the two pickup sets soon.

I got the one with the Darkglass and switches. It getting most of the playtime these days.

No clips and I'm having second thoughts now.....

Love your clips btw!

Bad news from the Nordstrand people on FD-3's. They say that the pickup shell design on the Voodoo Prima isn't P2 or any other size they offer, nor can they do a custom size for them. Unless I'm willing to rout, etc. Which I'm not.

Basically, unless I can find someone to make me custom FD-3 I'm out of luck and I have a bass that will reside under a bed.

This requires an 'Unlike' button.

I'm sort of stunned. I'm not quite sure what my next step will need to be.

I've kind of banked on being able to update this bass with current Dingwall pickups, and the original Bartolini pickups are why the bass hasn't been seen on stage yet. @Carey oh why have you forsaken me. ;) I've sent a quick message to Sheldon about it...I wonder if I can get someone somewhere to make me a set of customs for this. It would increase the cost exponentially, but at least I'd have a bass that's tonally usable without modifying a piece of history.

Could you get a shell the proper size scanned and 3D printed, then have the Nordstrand build the coil? Then have a third party place the coil into the shell and epoxy pot it? Sounds crazy, but maybe an option?

I haven't poked around too hard on this yet...but this: "We can customize most of the pickups we make, but the FD3 (and the Dual Blade) cannot be modified beyond stock." Although I'm wondering about things because: "The FD3 might not work anyhow, they are designed for 17mm to 20mm string spacing, and I'm guessing your bass is tighter than that." And while I don't have the bass in front of me, I've played it back and forth between the Rastaburst (on a daily basis) and I'd swear that they're the same.

And honestly, it might be easier to do a wood shell rather than a scan? I don't know enough about such things.

Here's an FD-3 from behind:

And here's the last set that Sheldon made for me:

Interesting. I guess scan and print versus wood shell is up to who you can find to get to do it.

It's almost too bad that Sheldon and crew are so busy, otherwise I'd bet they'd have a pickup in the works for you by now.

In other news, the SP5 is sounding killer in the musical pit for 'Heathers'. I'm hoping to see some of the other local Dingwallians in the audience this weekend (Thursday, Friday and Saturday).

In alternative other news, I'm gonna put rounds back on the ABZ6. The flats are killer on the A-C strings, the E is pretty damn great, but the B just isn't doing it for me, and I don't wanna go mixing string types.

If it happens for me, it's Saturday. : ) I need to convince the lovely Mz. Skies. We're anchoring Funk on Thursday for Reggae Night, then we're at the Palace Theater on Friday night for the 'Fuel the Bern' benefit concert with Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad and a bunch of others. : ) I really want to check it out to see you play and also to hear the SP5. Also, Heathers was a really formative movie in my teenhood.

The current news is that I'm talking to Sheldon about this. He says that theoretically it IS possible to fit the FD-3 coils in the limited sized shell footprint these have. He did a quick CAD to see. ***(PS that's superextramuthahumpinawesome that he'd do that on the fly)*** He's going to consult with his team about doing it or not. If he does decide that it's feasible to do and that the shop can take the time do it, I'll leave it up to him if there's a better way by wood or plastic. If it's wood shells, I promise we'll come up with something fun.

I can do you a favor: It can live under my bed, and I won't even charge you rent!

Or if you can 3D model the shells I can print them for you

I have 3 beds, but only two Dingwalls...that means my ratio is low right?

**Post Script 2:

After a long gig, often Mz. Skies takes my bass home when she leaves the venue. It's one less thing to worry about on load out and secure at home.

...If it's been a good gig, I come home to find that she's actually put the Rastaburst IN BED in our guest room...because she thinks it must be as tired as I am and deserves a good night's rest.

Mz. Skies is a keeper......:)

Mz. Skies is a keeper......:)

In so many ways. She also has only ever gotten jealous of my 'bass attention' about 3 times in nearly 10 years. All signs also point to her being pretty funny and wicked beautiful too...Didn't even blink when I booked both weekend nights for gigs on her birthday weekend. :crying:

I wish I could go to all those events, but musical is every night.

End of the month the funk ensemble is hosting Alto Cincos open jam (last Tuesday this month), plus playing in Shemin auditorium on a Sunday. Rock ensemble is also playing Shemin, and Beats & Eats. I'll be blasting Facebook with reminders of course.
