Scary...but turning out VERY well.
(Just waiting on UPS to deliver a 1/4" bit so that I can get the correct radius in the corners)
So, because I am technology theory smart and practical knowledge stupid, to replace my P-tone pup, all I have to do is unscrew the first, third and fifth little screws (from the left), pull out the wires, and replace with same color wires as we're in those spots for the original pickup? No soldering necessary??

So will this be a Z3 or Z3X configuration?
Is the only difference between those configurations that the neck pup is closer to the bridge?

I think this IS the standard 3X config; AFAIK, the spaced out neck pickup was primarily used with the "Super Fatty" pickups, not as much with the FD-3s.
I got the pickup wired-in but I think that the P-Tone is magnetically opposite from the Bartolinis.
Getting a lot of phase cancellation...
Looks badass, but I have work to do to get the tone to live up the the look.
Also, the P-Tone is WAY hotter, so balance is a bit challenging.

That is awesome and much more of an upgrade to your bass than I would have attempted by myself to my bass! Nice work sir!
I installed my P-tone today. It has definitely shifted the sweet spot on the bass, but I like what it has done generally. The P tone soloed definitely cops a pretty darn good p bass tone!
I can see why people like using that pup soloed. I like the series setting more now then I did before. I still like the parallel setting, but find myself boosting the bass a bit now.
The bass is noisier now in neck soloed and in series. I find I have to roll the treble off a bit in those settings to eliminate the hum. Probably has something to do with the wiring in my apt.
The bass is more versatile now, but I'm going to have to re-learn the sweet spots. Before, I found everything flat and parallel was the sweet spot, and for me, the only sweet spot though a darbn good one.
Now, I find all 4 PUP settings useful, but require some tweaking of the EQ to get a sweet spot for each setting.
All in all, very happy with the results.

The 3x is a monster. When I get back from Texas we will have to meet up...
Just laid down the first bass tracks for my band's second album. Played the Dingwall for the majority of the track and used a Kiesel Icon 5 for the rest.

Those are my main basses too! except my icon 5 is a carvin and I moved the pickups to the ng2 position on my combustion... Did you go for the wide spacing/asymmetrical neck on the icon?
The main options on my Kiesel 5 were:
Maple neck, swamp ash body - flame maple top - all-maple neck - back-of-neck satin finish - ebony fingerboard - jumbo frets - 14" radius neck - single coil pickups
I didn't see any "standard options" for string spacing or asymmetrical neck. String spacing is 19mm, which is a little wider than the 17mm I was used to on my previous 5'er.
Dingwall content - the song is nuanced with a restrained feel for the first half. I used the Dingwall for this. In the middle, it gets heavier and trancier (think Tool or Zep's "Kashmir") then finishes with a reprise of the opening but with a heavier feel. As the Kiesel has a growlier tone, I switched to that for the second half.
Been thinking of swapping some single coils into the Dingwall, but I haven't decided yet.
