........ that makes it so much easier to wait. really. i'm not in love with that at all. realz.

lol. yeah, while the idea of a cut in the wood that randomly migrates is kinda cool... i'm into expressions of chaotic behaviour as much as the next geek, i like the Reflecto explanation a bit better. maybe for the next bass i order off you we could go for Random Situated Mobile Emptiness?

that thing looks BEAUTIFUL Sheldon! it's exactly how i hoped the grain would turn out too! thanks so much! i'm woodsheddig like a MOTHER trying to get my skill level up closer to the quality of your basses.

Thanks!

:hyper:I have just put a new order this morning:

I went to the store today, mainly to make sure the correct order was being processed but also to give them a substantial wedge as a deposit.
There's no going back now, so on order I have:
[drum_roll]
1 x Dingwall Super J 5 Strings in the P/J pickup combination.
Body Colour: Fiesta Red
Maple Neck & fingerboard with pearloid block markers - non matching headstock
Pearl white pickguard.
[/drum_roll]

The bad news?
4 to 5 months expected delivery time, but as I've said best things come to those who wait.

That's gonna' be a KILLER bass... I don't think I've seen a PJ5 yet.

Oh, and I don't know if this helps or not, but 4-5 months is NOTHING for a special order for a bass of this caliber. Seriously. :)

What are the woods? I know Sheldon's currently into Walnut...

Gorgeous bass, man, and with the proper amount of strings! Good luck with it.

Mine's in the shop somewhere with yours...

Cheers,
Cameron

I'll be getting this bass next Friday

My wife's seen the bass and says it looks amazing. Tempted to get a white pearloid guard for it as well. :D

Beautiful Combustion! Most of the Combustions I've seen really look like a million bucks. I too would be itching for a pearloid guard on that one too! You should hit up Sheldon at the shop and order one up...then you could switch at will!

I am sure it will be worth it.

And after all I am not too worried about waiting time, got lots to play with in thge meantime, mainly my ABZ 5 which is THE patience healer, best bass I've ever owned so far.

My 4 string dingy showed up yesterday. awesome. i had never played one beforw, but there was ZERO learning curve. It felt completely natural. weight is nice. sound is nice. I only played for 30 min or so, but the dingy is a keeper!

oh yeah.., it is an ABII. pics to come!

Has Sheldon made the P pickup for 5 string?

My SJ5 is routed for the P, but I was under the impression that the pickup was "still in development."

hey cam! yeah, mine should be shipping out sometime next week i think. they got done early!!

woods - the website says the AB-I's are 2-3 piece Alder so i guess that's what the body is. the neck is Bubinga. i don't know enough to argue different tonal properties of woods and whether or not that makes a difference once they're amped, but i kinda hate light necks on darker bodies. so i went with the Bubinga neck to get the color scheme i wanted.

i've only played a couple Dingwall's, but MAN they were impressive. even if i pick goofy woods that shouldn't go together i trust Sheldon and Company will make a beautiful instrument.

crazy excited.

I'm looking at eventually adding an ABII to my stable, in addition to the Combustion. If I get a fretless, can I get a fingerboard with 'cheater lines,' or are the frettless ABII all nekkid fretboards? Can't really tell from the specs on the Dingwall site, and for some reason I can't seem to log on there at the moment... (I really, really like that dark green ABII over the figured wood....wow...) Yeah, I know, I thought the Combustion would kill the GAS for a while (well, DAS in this case...) but not for long!
