...And I believe you're now the third of the Dingwall/fEarful owners around here.

Beautiful bass!

Mini review:
-intonation perfect

-action perfect

-'evenness of tone across strings' -- perfect. At first I thought it wasn't perfect, but then I realized that I was striking the higher strings harder which made them sound overly loud -- years and years of playing normal basses taught me to pluck the higher strings harder I guess. I've got a lot of work to do on technique. It was really weird being able to beat the crap out of the B string if I wanted. On every other 5 I've ever owned the B has been loud enough I wanted to be pretty gentle with it.

-fit and finish - perfect; could not find any blemishes

-Wish it shipped in a HSC; I bought one off Craigslist (SKB Freedom) for 50 bucks though, so can't complain! Had to drive a very long way for it though.

-It is a little strange getting used to playing in between the slanted pickups. I think I might wind up moving my plucking in front of the pickups possibly.

-Series mode is my favorite so far but I dig the neck mode a lot too. Amazing how flexible the tones are on this bass though. I can see myself using the bridge a lot for other genres than I normally play.

-Having a tone knob again makes me a very happy camper

-The locking jack is spectacular

-The weight is amaaaaazing. My buddy picked it up and said 'this weighs less than my guitar.'

-Love the black on maple look - black hardware, black dots, tuners, etc.

-The transition is working out well to fanned frets. It's a little weird for me playing some very high lines -- the most awkward so far is the noodling at the end of Soul to Squeeze. I got it though. It really didn't take long at all to adjust.

Thanks Sheldon and Bass Central! Definitely the best factory setup I've ever seen.

rpsands,

Your review reinforces all that the Dingwall fans already know.

While it took no time to actually adjust to playing a Dingwall, I found for the same reasons you say, that I spent some time refining my technique because you can hit evenly across all the strings. I'm actually a much better player since I started using Sheldon's basses.

The things you list are also the reason that I've given up on any other 'brand' of bass.
