Dingwall Owners Club

hey, gang--wanted to ask for a bit of technical assistance.

i found an older (2005) super J for sale and was able to negotiate a deal on it. it's a four string but doesn't have the E string detuner i need for gigging--so i'd like to install one.

i'm not sure which hipshot model is the drop-in replacement for it; would appreciate you cluing me. and if anybody has a spare detuner key to dispose of, i'll buy it off ya.

Makes sense but I don't really think they will. Say good by to the skinny fatties. Lol.

I mean if you think about it the FD3(N or A), the p tone, the SF2 and the FDV all now can go in any bass with these pick up shells.
Nobody will ever know what pick ups they are getting with out really investigating. Lol.

Maybe this all explains the videos from Japan showing an NG-2 w/FDVs:

and with Super Fatty 2:

Can't answer your question, but congrats! White one on reverb?

yep, thanks. my wish list would include block inlays and a detuner, but otherwise that was pretty much what i'd have ordered in a build. i'm a n00b at playing fanned frets, and found the block inlays on my super P (the seredipitous gateway Dingwall bass for me) to be helpful in the upper register. if i need to (i'm missing position shifts up there), i'll put block stickers over the dots on the J.

but i do want to be able to get that low D when the tune calls for it, so a detuner key is on the agenda.

Yeaaaaahhhh, someone needs to buy this. I'm super surprised that it is still there. If I didn't have two Afterburners with another on its way at some point, this would've been tempting to bring home:

The problem I have is when I go to a music store and can't find anything nice to play compared to what I have at home hahahahaha. "Maybe I'll give this fender with super high action a try!?!??" Lol. ....
I know, right? I can't stand high action basses. I have only seen one Dingwall that was even remotely borderline on needing the action lowered from factory setup.

The black is really cool looking. We have another one incoming next week but it pre-sold last year. I was thinking of getting one with a solid black pickguard then doing a graphics overlay of...well, can't give away my idea, but the all-black would make the colored overlay look really cool - I think.

Once my build gets done, I'm probably pretty close to getting back into the build queue. But, I really need/want to see how this first build pans out before I do. But, those Combustions/NG-2s make a very strong argument to just buy them instead. From a quality perspective, they are right there with the Canadian ones without a doubt.

Edit to add: That ABHS is hot still. That blue is so nice. Have a photo of the back?

I'm with you Ray. I'm really surprised to see it still on the Bass Shop's site. I just finished jamming on my clone of this bass and it's amazing.
