I did realize that while the Darkglass pre has some good things going for it, it still doesn't quite nail what I'm looking for in a preamp. I'll have to go back to a drawing board on this, but I may end up having to DIY a preamp for my Dingwalls.

Edit: Whew, someone bought it!

Did you try a Combustion? You may like it's pre better. I love the Darkglass, but it does sound different to me with different woods. I had it in an ABZ and it sounded a good bit different to me than in a NG2, the FDV pickups may have had something to do with it. And with a NG2 I have found that a really nice 15" cab helps expand it's character. But I also like the Combustion for it's sound.

Yup, I have owned two Combustions - a V2 and a V4.

According to: [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] it was at Long & McQuade's in Calgary. Looks like there is one in Missouri in June... I went to one a couple years back not too far from me.

Calgary would've been a very long drive and Missouri is a fairly long drive from Ohio. I'll have to check out his schedule to see if he's doing anything back east in the states.

Do the Missouri one then come out and hang out for a while with me. About an 1.5 hrs from where that clinic will be held.

Cool - it is a small world. I played at a little rinky-dink bar last week and was talking with a fellow who does pro sound nationally and he mentioned meeting a harmonica player that has made it with a top band. I grew up in the same town as the harmonica player and had jammed with him. The connections we make in life have a way of expanding and meshing.

Seems that I remember going up to Boliver for a all you can eat buffet. There was another hole in the wall restaurant... maybe Walnut Grove or Ash Grove that had amazing all you can eat catfish. Directly across the street from that restaurant was a "Funeral Parlor and used Furniture" store. Only in Missouri.

I'm certainly no luthier -- I just went very carefully with a nice new router bit, and a good thick pickup template (that I got from Best Bass Gear).

Which is to say; if you can find a reputable luthier, this shouldn't be a complex task for them.

Also, mine isn't a "true" Z3; my neck pickup is a P-Tone that I added to the original pair of Bartolinis (which I hardwired together in series).
