Dingwall Owners Club

I have 3 basic personal setups - the Genzler BA12-3 Pair with MG800 amp, The Berg B-amp / NV212 or HG310 (depending on the size of venue), and a Quilter BB800 with a custom made 12 with a 3012HO driver.View attachment 1145141
I'd be interested to hear your impressions of the Magellan and the Quilter -- I have some interest in the new lightweight amps, and those two seem VERY different from each other, and cool for different reasons, but I've only had opportunity to play through the Magellan.

Off topic, I know, so feel free to PM (or ignore) me as you see fit.

I tried the Magellan and the 210 and 112 array cabs. The cabs are definitely a step above the other widely distributed offerings, but nothing that surprised me with tone or capability. The amp is pretty intuitive and has a decent power section. It feels closer to the Genz Shuttle than the Streamliner to me, but it has been a while since I have played those amps. Eq was powerful, but I didnt have my bass to really judge the tone of the amp.

Is there someone local carrying the Genzler stuff?

I tried out the Magellan at Midwood Guitar Studio in North Carolina and I liked it a lot, but I'd love to play it with my Z2, and compare it to my 700RB-II; I'm hooked on the quickness of the GK...

Thanks. That's saying something. I've been contemplating getting one to stick under my Fender Bassman 100T. My SJ/P4 sounds great through that amp into a couple of ML112s currently. Gotta try my Two10 with it tonight. GAS is biting me for the NV 212 though.
I don't have a 100T but I know someone who does. Being a sealed cab a tube amp should be a great match.

Moving things forward with Mo.

As long as he can source the right paint, I'll be sending my SP5 body to him in a week or so to have it routed for a bridge pickup, pickguard modification, side jack routing, and a refinish to Capri Orange. Once the body is back, I'm gonna trace the guard and get a custom guard made, either in a creamy off-white, parchment, or white pearloid. Tort just won't look right with the orange.

I emailed the DW shop about the bridge pickup. But does anyone on here know/ have an opinion: if there is the option of FD3 or FDV, which would match best with the stock P in reverse orientation?

I'm a big fan of Capri Orange, that would have been my next custom Dingwall had I had one built. Read my mini-review here in the last couple of weeks for my take on reverse P and FDV at the bridge. IME, if growl is your thing, FDV all the way.

Personal preference but I would do tort on Capri.

New name.... the creamsicle?

I understand your outstanding cab choice; it is also one of mine. I have 3 basic personal setups - the Genzler BA12-3 Pair with MG800 amp, The Berg B-amp / NV212 or HG310 (depending on the size of venue), and a Quilter BB800 with a custom made 12 with a 3012HO driver. I always get complements on my bass sound and would like to think it is my outstanding bass abilities - but in truth it is just the equipment with a bit of soul added. See this pic - it is the soul sweat coming out of my body last night at the "2nd oldest bar in Missouri". Due to the nature of the bar I will not be taking any Dingwalls.View attachment 1145141
Nice! I'm sure the Berg rig sounds awesome. I've always liked his equipment. But I have been a loyal Genz Benz and now Genzler player for years, and primarily use a Monique with my Genzler stack. I do also have a Genzler Magellan as well, which sounds great as well. BTW, I am now down to only Dingwalls, so I guess I'll either have to avoid those kinds of bars, or a strap on a sidearm!!:woot:

BTW, now that you have that awesome strap that matches that ABH, looks like you're just going to have to keep it for yourself now!!!

Gotta sell it - I have Z build coming up. If I were a 5 guy I would want to keep it for sure.

I thought it was discussed here, but I can't find it.
Has anyone compared the newest rounded pickup shell shape and size to the old ones? I mean these specifically:

Old:

New:
Invalid Link Removed

Reason I ask is that I'm thinking about modifying my red one. Going to do the same GlockMod that I did for the green one (which raises the low EQ point, and lowers the high EQ point), but also want to route in 3x setup. Since these new pickups are by far the easiest to come across, I thought about going that route.

If no one has, I'll pull mine and take a gander, just hoping someone else already did the work :D

I don't have a direct comparison (all of mine are the old style), but it would depend on where you're going with it, since with the rounded pickups you can get multiple styles (FD3, SF2, FDV, PTone). If you're gonna route, do you route for one extra (does it fit?) or 3x rounded? Then you have to buy 3 new pickups and rewire. I'd be curious if there is any difference with the new FD3s, but my impression was that there isn't.

I should've been clearer - the end goal would be to get to 3x setup on the red one, to be pretty close to my green one in terms of setup (though the red one will get a P-tone). I don't need perfect, but if I can get a fairly close look without having huge gaps or anything, that'd be pretty swell.
