I'm playing in a couple of funk bands right now, lots of slapping, so the Z is my go-to at the moment.

I'd like to make my SJ5 more of a "vintage"- tone bass, with a more traditional jazz (bridge an neck pickups) and precision (neck pickup soloed) option. So my idea with the SJ5 is to replace the neck pickup with a P-tone, and the bridge and middle FD3's with FDVs.
Anyone care to comment on this plan?

Thanks for the recommendations, I've contacted Mo to see if he has the time to do the routing for me.

I'm hesitant to have the bass routed by a local guy, and since I know some DW owners have similar mods done, I'm hoping to pass the body to someone who's handled a similar instrument.

I realize that it's just routing, and anyone who's done clean work on one bass can do it to any bass, but I'd prefer it be handled by someone familiar with the instrument in question.

As others have said, they most definitely do. I debated getting one made but, in the end, I decided I much prefer parallel frets on my fretless. I do too much chording in the upper register. I don't know if they have ever made a blank-board though. Now that would be difficult to adjust to.

I'm sure I saw a blank board six string not too terribly long ago. Beautiful instrument. I would want it lines but I'm a fretless noob.

They built one for Steve Gibson. Like an immature teenager, he named it Godmode.

I get some crazy Lord of the Rings vibes from that strap! So Cool! :laugh: By the way....are you using Payson Stainless Steel Strings? If so, that's a monster of a set up right there! :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Well TBF it was either that or Karen, and not that there's anything wrong with the name Karen, great name, great name, but it's just that Karen doesn't really capture the essence of the prowess necessary to wield such a tool.

In all serious, i wonder how many hours he is up to now and whether they've acclimated him to it.

@maurilio from the Nordstrand shop did this exact work, aside from the refin, for my old SP.

Impeccable work, you'd never know it wasn't done at the factory; not sure if he does finish/refinish work though.
