This darling had been sitting in her case since before Christmas. I admit I was a little excited to be pulling it back out today for band practices.
She's strung with Payson reduced core and sounded amazing tonight. I still love the payson stainless more but they don't have the longevity of the RCs.

Not loose per se, just never screwed in properly. I’m not sure how it made it past the setup as the open E buzzed against the tree when the B was played, but I’m very happy with the bass now.
My curiosity has just been peaked about Wayne Jones audio? The Aguilar ag700 also has been taunting me. If you have time to take a look at those to items/brands?!?

Ok ok...I will sit down and take real pictures. I've really had it in my hands for all of about 10 minutes of playtime.
We're having a bit of a snow day and I have nothing to do but sit at home and get to know this bass better. Right up front, I can say that I'm REALLY impressed with what showed up. I wasn't sure what to expect given my other Dingwall exposure, but really I don't feel like this is any less a Dingwall than any of my others. This is a really really good way to ride the lightning without a custom price. I'm going to eventually sit down and get long winded about it, but right now, I can say that the fit and finish of the instrument...I have nothing at all I can point to.
But for now, this is where it stands. Excuse the bad picture, my phone was doing something funky...and I haven't even removed the plastic from the pickguard. I have straplocks that will go on today, I have Dingwall knobs on order as well as a P-tone. I haven't even plugged it in yet and I'm sure that the stock FD3 kicks as much bootie as it has in my others, but I'm really interested to try out the P-tone.
...and obviously there's a bit more backstory to this as well in the future. Note, this is NOT a factory shipped NG3.

I "like" the shade shift purple one - but that metallic turquoise = FAIL. lol I know Sheldon was asking about colour feedback on Instagram. Those crazy colours (metallic turquoise) now pigeon-hole them into a smaller percentage of potential buyers that like those colours. Unique is different than gawdy....and that is how i describe those two colour combos IN that order. No offense - just my opinion.
Imagine...a guy walks into a music store...sees the shade shifter one and says "oh thats pretty cool!" Then his buddy walks up behind him and says "i hope you mean the purple one". Then, the poor turquoise one sits lonely on the rack for far too long until the music store has to discount it to unload it.....then that music store becomes more alert to crazy colours not selling and decides to keep the more traditional basses in stock that he can sell easier - it's unfortunately a biz that relys on first impression. I dont remember ever walking into a store and "wanting" to try an ugly bass to hear how it sounds. lol
Anyway - love that pic of the one @NaH posted - clean classy and would go home with any one of us.

For my money I'd really like one in large flake chartreuse metallic. And I'd really love a sparkle that's baby blue with baby pink flames. But I'm not like the other people. 
I think the real plan is to do one or two of the traditional finishes and one or two that are out there.
I've been warned that I'm not allowed to buy another Dingwall for two years though. By that time maybe there will be a sparkle 5 out there.

I’ve never been interested in the D-bird because the headstock is too small and the colours were underwhelming for such a way out there shaped instrument.
I have to fully disagree with everyone on the gloss metal flake aquamarine. I think it’s amazing, that strip of matching paint on the headstock is great ( pretty sure that won’t make it to the final production run though).
At Combustion/NG2 prices I’d happily put my money where my mouth is an order one.

i think they're soon to be taking pre-orders....get on the turquoise list - 8 to 10month wait IIRC.... I either read that somewhere or dreamed it last night? lol ...

Life is too short to not have bright colored basses. I'm not locked into anything. I can only play one on stage at any given time anyway. I've found out the hard way that the 'traditional' black, sunburst, etc. kind of bore me.
They said price announcement on the 25th Jan so I’m gonna assume preorders start that day. They are also opening another workspace in the SK shop specifically for the Combustion line so that should hopefully speed things up.

That looks really great. If I wasn't committing myself to putting down a deposit on a usa Spector at the end of February, I'd be all over this when preorders open.

That's cool... I figured they'd have something in the works. I got the stock reply that they weren't doing anything currently a while back. I ended up having a decent plan b...a friend who's also a world class bass tech/builder came through on it, which I'm forever grateful for.
The purple and a vintage burst are definite colors. The metallic teal is just a test, they're still working on what the final color options will be.
All the talk of color is so interesting. Being both a keyboard player and a bassist, it is interesting to see the crazy variety compared to keyboards. Black, white, gray, the occasional red or blue and that is about it. I'd buy one of the Orange Waldorfs if it wasn't so huge. But on basses, the world is your oyster (where did that saying come from anyway 
). You name the color, you can pretty much get it, do you like wood, color, wood and color, matte, gloss, dots, no dots, speedo bars, blocks, super fancy inlays, bursts, fretted, fretless, etc. That is also a problem when selling (depending on who sees your ads and whether they have the cash). There is an awesome Z3 for sale in the classifieds. Pretty much exactly the spec I want. But it is green and has block inlays, both of which are not me. But in the end, I'd rather have the variety. I'd love a metallic orange synth with reverse color keys. I suppose I could have it custom done, but for me there is a point at which, while beautiful, I can't justify the cost. This applies in the bass world as well.
