Dingwall Owners Club

I haven't seen or played one yet. It is going to be a tossup as to whether I get an incoming one in before NAMM. If not I too hope he has one there. I have an appointment so I will play the new 6-string and hopefully a Z. If you see me around please say hello! Are you going to see Mohini Dey (and other great players) play at the bass bash Thursday? I am looking forward to that.

That sounds like a real treat. I'd love to go to that one day.

I'm excited for you to get the Z3 you have on order too. I truly loved my ab for years but the Z3 neck just took it to another level.

I can't afford to keep it as a personal bass, my eyes are set on an ABZ. Maybe one day I can get a Z.

One day! I understand that she's leaving you probably as quickly as it gets there but I'm just excited that you'll get a chance to noodle on one at least. For me it's all about the neck on them. I love he body too but with my short fingers it's just so sweet.

Not to mention your spec!!! I'm excited to see that as well. It sounds like it's gonna be an eye popper.

If there is anything you want me to check out at NAMM let me know! Any brand of anything.

This one will be very cool & unique. My wife even liked the pic of it and asked why didn't I get one; I asked if she would get it for my birthday then she totally freaked when I told her what it costs. Yea, the neck is what I understand will make me for sure want one. I will certainly check it out but then it goes right back in the case.

Waiting for me when I got to work today, indeed a day early:

Nicely packed too, which is really cool, given UPS tried to drive the tip of the headstock on my 2005 AB1 through the hard case and out the box when they delivered it, years ago.

...more important since I said no to the gig bag, since this bass will live in a Gator ATA case. I didn't need a 3rd unused gigbag lying about the music room, no matter how nice. This one's kind of been all over the place, China, Saskatoon, Florida and a few other mystery stops along the way. Also, can I point out that whenever I see the Dingwall green tape and magic marker, I feel like I get inordinately excited about green tape?

That NG-3 looks really cool. I know you can move the pickups on the NG-2 but is the extra pickup on the 3 closer to the neck?

Also how do you guys feel about the fretwork? Any issues with high frets or more-than-expected sprouting?

I don't believe so. I think they probably CNC the same bodies for NG-2 and standard combustion these days, but I'm sure someone will be able to measure for you at some point in the near future.

I've only have a few moments with mine (I won't be home until tonight and will get to really digging in tomorrow), but my initial feel is that the neck is fantastic. A really quick few minutes of playing and the action is Dingwall low, and possibly lower than the initial setup on my AB or Z.

I don't have my AB anymore, but this neck feels like I remember it feeling. Definitely a very comfy fit, but it fills my hand a bit more than the Z's neck. It's thinner than my Voodoo-Prima. I'll inspect the fretwork when I get home but there was nothing right off the bat that stood out for any sprout or sharp edges.

I think all the fretwork, minus pressing them in, is done in saskatoon

Co-rrect. Necks removed, frets leveled and worked, setup done, quality control inspection done in Saskatoon.

Also, I'll point out that this thing has come thousands of miles and dammit if it's not dead right in tune.

The NG2s are nice but not perfect. My NG2-5 arrived with a weird e buzz that turned out to be one side of the string tree not quite tight enough. Fixable with a screwdriver in seconds once we found it, but surprising.

Well, worth keeping in mind there is a difference between the quality of the design, construction, etc, vs. minor setup issues.

I want to try to see Mohini at the bass bash on Thursday and at the Plini show at the Alvas Showroom on Saturday. I think she will be playing with Marco Minnemann and the band Covet will be opening. So many amazing shows it's hard to pick which all to go to!

Hopefully we run into eachother @bebass! Because then I can ask you a million questions about all the new gear, like the new Genzler BA12-3 SLT cab that they just put out!

So much gear.
So little time.
Even less money :crying:
