I wouldn’t let string options deter you from picking up a Dingwall. They sound great, there are lots of string options that fit, and if you end up not liking it the resale value on them is strong.

Lack of availability seems to he the biggest thing keeping me from buying one. Want an ng2 5 string in white or blue, would also go with black if it was cheaper the basses I can find for sale the prices are all over the place. Looks like bass central had a sale where they were selling black ng2 5 strings brand new for $1580. But I’ve seen some listed for doubles that. Looks like people are trying to make money off dingwalls lack of ability to make them as fast as they’re selling.

$1580 was the previous list price. The $1660 is the current street price, unless you get a swirl finish.

Something you should consider is contacting BC and seeing what they've got pending orders for that are unclaimed. They've got orders going back a year or so...

Don't pay double that, or even more than that.

I like the idea of pineapple fiber straps! I don't care for vinyl, but it is in many products. Hemp fiber would make good straps, I think.

Souldier makes 3" wide bass straps that you can spec the ends to be vinyl. They are what I am currently using most of the time now and I find them to be comfortable. The main part of the strap (if you choose one with a centre design) is like a seatbelt. Very flexible and easy to pack.

That's from wearing a heavy guitar for a good chunk of time when I was a kid. My spine is straight, by one shoulder low and the other is high.

I had lots of back problems from wearing a metal necked Kramer strapped on for a lot of years. It is amazing that your spine is straight. Most I have seen with an imbalance left/right do have spine related pain.

Yeah, there's something about how the muscles developed along with the bones shifting. Either way, it's never been a problem. No back pain or spine trouble.

Couch makes wider padded bass straps too, from car upholstery I believe, though they may have some faux leather ones as well.

Went ahead and ordered a ng2 in blue.

These are the two videos that really sold me.

Nolly using the same overdrive I use. So using the same pedal was nice to see but one issue I have with this video like a lot of others of the ng2 is it’s all pick playing and metal and I mainly play finger-style and hard rock

The biggest seller for me was this video
Not only because it’s all fingerstyle and slap but also because I could finally hear this bass without an overdrive

A little nervous about playing above the 12th fret. But most of the high stuff I do is single notes or simple two note chords like tenths so hoping it won’t be super difficult to adjust to the fanned frets.

Yeah, I'm probably in the minority here, but I have a hard time with chords up high on my Afterburner. For chords up high I wish the fanned frets went the other way! I think your gonna love the ng2 though, benefits outweigh the cons by far IMO.

Weird - that bass at 1:55 has an extra string or two - I wonder how that happened!

Don't worry - you'll be fine on the double-stops. It's "E-shape" (1-5-8-11) barre chords that are a problem, unless you have very small hands. Two-finger barre chords (1-5-8) are fine.

Yeah,I don't slap, tap or pick. :)

But keep in mind that the Z-2 (pickups at the bridge) setup has also been used for decades now by guys like Lee Sklar who plays a lot of straight rock/pop stuff too. I have an NG on the way as well, and believe I can get what I need out of it.

I’m in a Foreigner/Journey Tribute Act and I’m sure my NG-2 will be perfect. I wanted a different flavor than my Sadowsky for some songs. But agree. Most of the vids out there are metal guys with distortion. Sounds great, but not what I do.

We have probably seen significantly more NG2 interest from metal guys than from rock, country, or jazz players. But I think the NG2 excels at rock and should be considered by traditional rock and country and even jazz players every bit as much as it is by the metal guys. A nice range of tonality is possible and a player can use either pick or finger to get these tones. I am mostly a Rock & Blues pick player although do use fingers and heaven forbid also thumb for a particular blues sound. I admit that on the upper notes/chords I still have to look on the fan fret but am getting better at it, so familiarity is the key.

Honestly, this is sort of why I don't watch many Dingwall test/review videos in general, which is probably too bad because there's lots of sounds in these basses that aren't what the available information suggests.

I'm hear as an example of tones available contrary to what the public perception is. : )
