Hello Arrowsun, Just to clarify the aluminum front panel is a separate piece from the the preamp PCB behind it. We do use the highest quality pots which are still delicate and need some level of protection during transit. We're awaiting your amp and will repair it ASAP. If you have a scratch or ding on the front panel and are OK with it, then it does not need to be replaced. Probably just the Master Vol pot is all that is needing replacement after taking the hit.

And as stated above by Bebass, all amp designs in this class of amplifier use PCB mount pots. It is just the most reliable and best performing option. Using "flying leads" in a class D amplifier is a big no-no.

I've been in and out of this thread over the years, so I may have missed it, but has there been any discussion of pending updates to the Dingwall website? It seems there have been enough changes to the product offerings that it would be helpful to better summarize what is available.

I run my MG800 flat as well. Looks like Jeff is quickly taking care of your situation.

... and the combo page of the Combustion and NG-2 requiring a drill-down is a little annoying. I'd like to see each have a column. Overall, a pretty small point. I wouldn't not-buy a bass because of this, nor trash talk the company.

Forgive me if this has been asked, but if I were to order a 6 string Dingwall, what would I get if I wanted a well-rounded bass capable of more classic tones? I was thinking an ABII, ABZ or Combustion with a P-tone in the neck position, but I want to get some external input before I do anything. Also, I'm aware combustions don't come in 6 strings...yet. Thanks for the help!

With your question you need to also state whether you want passive only, or passive/active. And if you choose passive/active, you have to decide whether you want any tone controls available when passive.

My biggest adjustment, one which I resisted for too long, was to relax the "one-finger-per-fret approach," at least at or below the 5-6 fret. Since I have done that, I have increased my enjoyment of the long scale basses and now feel completely comfortable transitioning from three frets per four fingers at first position to one-to-one as I move up the board above about the 6th fret and vice versa.

I’ve incorporated the same technique. Never looked back.

True. I would say active/passive. I find that when I play passive basses, I sometimes wish I could tweak settings from my bass. What are the tone controls you're referring to besides a traditional treble roll off?

Edit: reread your initial post. I would like a tone control in passive mode.

When you go passive with the Darkglass preamp, you have no tone controls at all.

When you go passive with the Glock preamp you get treble rolloff available.

If you have a good quality pedal early in your signal chain, you can also accomplish the preamp rolloff with the pedal (or of course, on your amp), but it's not the same as having it right there at your fingertips.

So if you *need* passive treble rolloff on the bass and you want active, then I think you are looking at something with a Glockenklang preamp.

Right. I've played the Glockenklang pre's before and I was a fan. I could always change out the Darkglass pre, though.

I was looking forward to spending some time with the Darkglass pre in my new to-me NG-2, but I broke the G string while re-stringing/tuning, so my joy must be postponed... Anyways, the Glock pre's in my Super J/P4 and SJ5 have been pleasing my ears since I acquired them in '09 and '13, respectively. I run mine flat and they are a big part of bringing the 'Dingwall Grin' whenever I play those two. Pull up on the volume control and you're in vintage city. Yup, just roll back that treble control if you need fewer highs in 'vintage mode'. (my Dingwall Grin)

I asked this about a bass in the pipeline and heard that they don’t have ptone pickups for 6 strings.
