curious if the pickguard on dbird standard is painted or not... since dbird customs are wood

Description on price list says "vinyl pickguard." In the pictures on the new site it kind of looks like a sticker or something so that makes sense.

Would you mind terribly if I picked your brain in a few weeks re: your HX Effects experience with bass? I'm looking to get one myself but hard to get a good read at the moment on how well it works with bass. The opinions on the Line 6 forums tend to be from guitar players who "play bass", which isn't much help usually (!).

Not at all. So far I get the feeling it will do what I want, but I will need to dial it in. We'll see.

I think if I actually recorded a lot or played all the time I may would want one and I certainly have looked at the possibility as I am an equipment nerd, but the Zoom multieffects pedals are more along my level and would keep me busy. But first I have to get in and play with the effects that I heard at NAMM that blew me away, then I may consider multi-effects devices. If I were a better guitar player I would have Helix already for that. I am somewhat intrigued by envelope filters and briefly owned and played with an EBS but would assume the Helix and possibly Zoom have a pretty good one plus all the other things one can do; general question to those who do have these - is this a good assumption?

The Helix has a Darkglass B7KU clone called Obsidian 7000. It sounds very close but doing many A/B tests there is nothing like the real deal. All the other effects work well with bass. The Envelope Filters are not the best though. I had an MXR and I struggled to get the same effect with what the Line 6 offers. On the Helix HX there is 2 effect loops so you can add your own within a block and place it anywhere in the chain. This is a great feature. Overall, the HX effects would be a great addition to any bassist pedalboard. I would just include your favs to compliment it.

My grand ultra deluxe mega super pedalboard will ultimately consist of a Polytune -> Super Symmetry -> Alpha Omega Ultra. I will have to wait a while for the Super Symmetry, however, since funds will be limited after purchasing the AOU. Eventually ending up on a Pedaltrain Nano+.

Good enough that I'm even using it at local room...NG3 running Neck/Middle series in Rochester NY last night. This week we're in Ithaca with The Wailers then off to Roanoke VA & Asheville NC.

I may drop the pickups just a touch...the series N/M is really hot, probably due to placement. Sounds fantastic though and I'm starting to get used to the EQ. so much there there that I'm not using any bass boost on board at all.

Yes, in fact I run the bass pot at or close to zero most of the time, and all the way to zero when using any sort of distortion at all. Never any reason to get it up past 5, and this is on a scale of 0 to 10.

I also like the neck middle series position the best, and wish that there was a wee bit of attenuation in that switch setting to make its level match the level of the other three positions. That is one nice touch that PRS does on some of their guitars to compensate when switching between a humbucker and a single coil. Wondering if any electronics wiz has already solved that problem or would like to take a stab at it. It has to be a simple matter of adding a fixed amount of resistance in the line in that switch position, I would think.

I tend to run my volume on my bass at about 75% or so. That way I have room if I think things will need to get loud. I never had a problem with the Rastaburst in series with hitting the front end of the next stages too hard, but the NG certainly can and will. I may try to pull it back a little further downstream if I need to (say at the FDeck HPF3 on my board). Any of the actual effects I use are passed through a Iron Ether Divaricator, the bass control isn't really in the equation for that, as I set a crossover point and only send the upper split to effects.

The HX has no amp sims but you can load IRs.

Will do! We played a thing with them this past summer, but this is the first 'club show' we've done with them. Should be fun.

In other news, My pedal board just blew up. I've been taking a Pedaltrain Nano+ for gigs, and finally jumped to a Classic 2. I was tired of not being able to leave straight angle cords (my inserts) plugged in for travel and now I'll have a place for my expression pedal to remain mounted. Also adding a few other bits and pieces in the next few weeks and months.

You can load up to 128 cab sims. No amps..this is mainly Effects. But, you can do a 4 Cable method and route effects straight into amp, thru effects loop or both!
