Dingwall Owners Club

The Zoom B3 replaced a spider web of gear running into a small Yamaha mixer. It sits on my desk hooked up via usb to my Mac. I still use the other three pedals into the B3. With the free software, all the B3 controls are on my screen, so editing and saving patches and settings is easy.

Playback from iTunes is easy. I’m happy with the headphone sound for practice. It would be cool if it had an aux in and I could use my Roland drum machine. Or straight out of an iPod. The new B3n has aux in.

I don’t use it live because it’s too complicated for me. I’m just not into dealing with more than my MXR pre/di, and the compressor, which are always on. I just want simple live.

Truth is I haven’t really exploited everything it can do. There are B3 megathreads I haven’t read. Some guys swear it’s all they need, right into the board.

There’s a huge variety of delays, reverbs, drives, filters amps and cabs in the B3. It’s a little overwhelming plus learning the multi patch navigation, and long hold switches to get to the tuner and looper.

I give it a solid B+, and rate it as one of my best bass gear purchases. It gets used everyday. For the price of one inexpensive effect.

Next practice I’ll leave my amp at home and try the B3 going straight into the board. Sink or swim.

Thanks brother! I'm in a heavy funk band and also a psychadelic rock band, so I get to use them all at one time or another in the course of a show. I'm a pedal junkie!

No problem! And that's great that you have an outlet. I'm with you though, effects are so inspiring and fun that having a cool board is a great facilitator. Now if only I can start incorporating ring mod into my cover band...

I use a Line 6 Helix mostly for effects into my main amp which is a Genz Benz ShuttleMAX 12 into the Uber 210/410 cabs. Been using the GB rig for the last 8 years.

I just got an HX Effects. Just now starting to play with it. Before that it was mainly Markbass Chorus/Flanger, Markbass Booster, and the EHX Canyon. I love the Shimmer on the Canyon.

It finally dawned on me today that the Nolly is the first signature bass that I've ever owned. You did good, brother Getgood. I was digging on the bridge pickup a lot today. Leaner and meaner than the neck with plenty of phat left in. I'm going to try soloing it the next time I play it live. The only other bass that I really liked soloing the bridge pickup on was the Ric 4003 I had for a while.

Yeah, I find the bridge pickup on the long scale DWs highly usable.

Would you mind terribly if I picked your brain in a few weeks re: your HX Effects experience with bass? I'm looking to get one myself but hard to get a good read at the moment on how well it works with bass. The opinions on the Line 6 forums tend to be from guitar players who "play bass", which isn't much help usually (!).

Billy Sheehan is playing live with a Helix nowadays. I've got myself Helix Native to use at home and its pretty cool if you pair it with external impulse responses.
My friend Erik Arkö has a couple of videos on the Helix: Erik Arkö
