I've just had the inclination lately to play with wierd sounds. A flanger, an echo thing, chorus and a phaser....

Does anybody here do much monkeying with that type of stuff and have some good recommendations?

I have started to mess around a bit with a pedal or two, but probably won't stray too far. I really like my Darkglass Vintage Microtubes pedal for some additional edge on my tone for certain rock songs. I also have a diamond Comp as well. Haven't used it in years! I might try combining the two and tweaking them together.

MXR m 80 di +, EH pitchfork, and Ovnilab smoothie. These go out to play.

And a Zoom B3, which is a Swiss Army knife: looper, tuner, drum machine, butt load of fx, amp and cab sims. With great headphone out. Interface, di, usb hookup for playback, three power options. My main practice tool. Mostly stays home, but well worth the $150. Endlessly entertaining multi for the price.

From what I've read so far, you'd be forgiven for thinking they're the most amazing thing since sliced bread. When you say "not for everybody", could you elaborate?

The difficulty for me too is there's very little chance I'd find one in Aus to try out first before committing...

How's the sound quality? Particularly the delays?

And has anyone used a B3 side by side with a Line 6 M9?

I "attempt" to play mostly rock/blues...
So...if you guys could limit the pedals to say 4 or 5 max...which are your MUST have's? And why?....I ask this speaking mostly to the Super Series PASSIVE guys...but open to replies. Thx :)

This is what I have on my board.
DG Alpha Omega: Always On and most of the time with the blend at 9-10 and very little drive. It gives it a little bit of extra goodness to the SJ.
DG SuperSymmetry compressor: It also makes everything sound nice a fat, but I'm thinking about getting a Cali Compact Bass.
OmniCabSim Deluxe: This is extremely useful when playing without an amp on stage or if you're playing with one but want to get that mic'ed up cabinet sound without using a mic :D

Compressor: OvniFX Smoothie was my favorite, but I’m now using a Madbean 4:1
Octave-down: Boss OC2 is the classic, but I use a Broughton Audio Broughctave which is a super modded and improved take on the OC2. Next best after the Broughton would be the 3Leaf Octabvre.
OD: Southampton Fifth Gear has a nice low mid bump that makes all basses sound fatter, and does low gain tubey sounds very nicely.
Envelope filter: Broughton Joshwah for me, but there’s many great ones.

That’s if I could only have 5. I’d add my DIY Green Russian Big Muff as absolute necessity though as well. And the Zoom MS100BT covers all the delays and modulation sounds I might need. But I much prefer a way bigger board.

When I first got mine I felt that it was a little dark sounding.

I was running it through the FX return of a Genz Benz ShuttleMAX 12.2 and discussed my experience with the Jule guys in the mega thread. They sort of echoed the dark assessment but also suggested that it could be the amp and to try a dedicated power amp.

I figured it was worth a shot so I grabbed a power amp (Crest ProLite 3.0) and brought it to the next gig.
It was a much better experience. Not as dark, perfectly even volume between all the notes, articulate tone, and a wonderful fatness that slots into the mix perfectly.

If you've read a lot of the mega thread and are still interested I'd say to give it a shot! It really sounds fantastic with a Dingwall.

I'm starting through the mega thread - thoughts are I'd likely go for the rackmount or Tardis M700 and roll it all into one with the "recommended" power amp from Jule himself.

Thanks for the advice though, that really clears it up. Are you still using yours?
