Dirty comedians

Is it Lisa Lampanelli? Didn't get any Youtube results for 'Lapannelli', but I looked up a couple of Lisa Lampanelli vids. A lot of 'jokes' she made did seem very offensive (and dirty), especially considering my fragile sensibilities regarding jokes on racial stereotypes

She is terrible. Every joke is either insulting someone, racially motivated or talking about how many black guys she's slept with.

You get great comedians on both sides.

One of my current favourites is John Bishop, and he mainly does the story telling approach, there is some swearing (but not much), but it isn't central to the comedy.

As a fellow Scot, even I think he goes too far at times.

Tho much of what he does is hilarious.

So come on guys, stop looking for cheap laughs and learn to develop your talent. This will only elevate the world of comedy.

George Carlin and Bill Hicks are 2 of the most foul mouthed comedians you will ever hear.... also 2 of the most intelligent, insightful, brutally honest men who ever did comedy, IMO..

I'm not convinced that the dirtiness in comedy has gotten worse in recent years. George Carlin was hilarious and he was a dirty mofo.

I'll add to the chorus - I don't mind swearing, but it depends how it's used. I like intelligent comedy. Mitch Hedburg, Chris Rock, and Steven Wright for instance.

I can't stand profanity used just to cover up bad jokes. I also can't stand the bad BET type humor where every joke is "Black folks be like... White folks be like...".(That's not to say all BET comedy is like that, but the bad ones often are).

In every art form, the good artists rise above the medium. The bad ones use gimmicks in an annoying way to cover up a lack of originality.

Jim Gaffigan is one of the funniest guys out there, who just happens to be clean humor as well.

Louis CK is one of my favorites, but he is possibly one of the dirtiest. But more in a Carlin sort of way than Andrew Dice Clay.

Bill Engvall is not a comedian.

My wife and I listen to the Steve Harvey show almost every morning on our morning commutes to work, and find it exceptionally funny. (Other than that babbling idiot, Shirley Strawberry and her attempts to control Steve Harvey). His live standup special on Netflix, however, is so completely full of filth that it takes away from the comedy of it (IMO). He stated that he was "fittin'" to say a lot of things he couldn't say on the radio, and then proceeded to super-graphically describe one of the "Strawberry Letters" he received on the show regarding an obese gentleman and his bowel functions. I will not repeat it here, as it is in such poor taste (not to mention against rules).

(FYI - the Strawberry Letter is a letter requesting advice, most typically on relationships or money matters).

Extended jokes about bowel functions (David Cross, from "Bigger & Blackerer", Steve Harvey's standup, etc.) or extremely graphic depictions of sexual acts is done merely for shock value, and the laughs are nervous laughs from the audience.

Comedians can be "dirty" and still be hilarious - Rodney Dangerfield's jokes aren't exactly the cleanest things in the world, but he doesn't need to go into extreme detail.

I agree, the Roasts are generally extremely unfunny. HOWEVER... Norm MacDonald's bit at the Roast they did for Bob Saget was really, really funny because it was squeaky clean and extremely corny...
