sometimes even the most cared for cab suffer a ( stuff happens ) moment. plugging your bass in without the mute on can wreck a speaker if your unlucky. my git player lost a magnet on his expensive speaker when hitting a bump in his car. i was with him and it did not seem excessive but he was mad as hell.

Disappointed with Hartke

Nope.
You lucked out. My dissapointment stems from the fact that It'll be six weeks from the time it failed until I can order a speaker, not the faiulre itself.
Absolutly. I actually wasn't upset (we were having too much fun). It happened mid set, but I had a DI into our PA so I just used the monitor. I consider myself lucky that this is the only gear failure I've had in many, many years. My GP's Mesa died twice at gigs in just the last month. He used an old H & K combo at the last one and seems happier; less stuff to lug around.
I just saw a Hartke alumunum 10" on ebay for about 20 bucks.
(I don't know if all the aluminum speakers from hartke are the same)
On another note...IMO...
The upper quality Hartke stuff has a great rep for being reliable, But the lower dollar "serious bass on a budget" line..ummm, not for me. How much could you have paid for the cab used?..Not as much as it will cost to replace all the speakers.

I only paid $200, my neighbor just wanted it out of his house. He didn't use it much and at 95lbs, it was in the way. I fully intend to eventually replace the speaker. I just won't gig with it again. Too bad, the sound was amazing for a relatively cheap ($399 new) cab. This is a 410XL, which I thought was on the better end. Of course, now that I'm looking, I'm finding that a lot of people have had problems. A lot have had good luck too, so it's a mixed bag. Either way, not reliable enough for my needs.
I can highly recommend Markbass cabs but they don't come in at $399. Any cab in that sort of a price range will not compete in the reliability stakes, regardless of who manufactures it. However no speaker is bullet proof and after several years of regular work, I blew my 15 Markbass speaker. The replacement driver cost $400 and I had to wait 4 weeks which is more than acceptable IMO.
I have a MB CMD102p and love it. I use it with a Genz Benz which will be my new set up. The Hartke was cheap, but it sounded great.
Cheap gear is always a compromise, with reliability being the primary factor regarding such a compromise. I have never heard a cheap cab sound great, so the Hartke surprisingly excelled in that department. The pricier Markbass and GB gear will no doubt satisfy your needs
