Double Bass Discuss Favorite Drummers

Funny that some people don't realize that this is the dark side and that we're probably talking about jazz drummers.

Jack DeJohnette. The most colorful and interesting drummer I have ever heard.

It's fine. All in good fun. Anyone have or heard the Original Drum Battle gene Krupa vs buddy rich record? Best album cover ever.
Entertaining both _sides_, jimmy chamberlain from the first smashing pumpkins full album is also some incredible colorful drumming--as you put it, jallenbass.

Drummers?

I'm a big fan Stanton Moore of Galactic. He has great chops, but more importantly he a is a grooving monster.

Daniel Glass of the Royal Crown Revue and currently the Brian Setzer Orchestra. Daniel has the most killing shuffle that I've ever heard. He has killer chops with exceptional taste. He get can drive a big band, but I've seen him with a small jazz quartet and I've seen him rock. The man is amazing.

Mark Schulman started out with Billy Idol, he was with Velvet Revolver, he toured with Cher for a few years and is currently with Pink. Don't write him off for playing with pop acts, this man can PLAY. He is the master of the fat backbeat and playing for the song. But be warned, he has chops for days.

Hannah Ford Welton, the new drummer with Prince. She is a hard hitter and plays with the maturity of someone twice her age.

Those are a few off the top of my head that are worth checking out.

There are so many, but a few that come to mind are:

Idris Muhammad. He's a jazz drummer but often adds a touch of New Orleans funk. Great reggae playing as well (check out his work with Ernest Ranglin).

Clyde Stubblefield and Jabo Starks

Bernard Purdie

Gene Lake

Zigaboo Modeliste and James Black from New Orleans

Jimmy Branly (I was introduced to him via NG La Banda. Amazing player)

"Stix" Hooper

Harvey Mason

"Juju" House and Ricky Wellman (both played a lot on the D.C. go-go scene)

Mike Clark

Chris Dave

Omar Hakim

Style Scott (Jamaican heavyweight)

Carlton Barrett

"Santa" Davis (another Jamaican great)

Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace (yet another Jamaican legend
