Do I need a new Bass ?

If you can get your hands on an Ibanez Tallman 300 I think you’d like the sound. The P pickup is thick but this model has a humbucker in the bridge. The neck is on the chunky side though. The Kiloton @jd56hawk recommended is another nice option.

Sounds like you dont want or need a 5 string. Have you considered trading the yamaha? No shame in playing 4 string only.

fender rumble 100 ,still learning use it but I get nice tone with it.(expect for slap )

I have this amp, and i love it. But ive had several people tell me its muddy when i play my jazz bass thru it. All that changed when i got a P bass. Im also considering getting the 200; i hear reviews it is clearer than the 100, and an all around better amp. I dont slap, but im guessing it may be the amp on that one.

This. Turning off the bridge pickup should *pretty much* get you there, and if it doesn't then there's probably something else at play that's not necessarily material (technique, EQ). Buying gear is almost never a magic solution: Personally I don't agree with the "Buy, buy, buy" advice, especially when it's directed at newer players.

You say you want a tone that's "Better than your Yamaha"...but better how? Can you describe what is leaving you unsatisfied? Is it just the 5-string aspect that you dislike?

Only advice I will offer at this point is to try to borrow or rent a 4-string P-bass (or whichever other bass you have your eyes on) for a short period of time, and play it through your amp, in the exact same conditions you normally play. Bring it to band rehearsal too. If the difference really is "night and day", then see if you can trade in or sell the Yamaha to get your new bass.

The Yamaha sound nice but actually I had a lot of weird problems with it .my nut broke ,my switch selector broke and in the sound area the b string with that sound so muddy .
It's like play from other Bass .
I love the neck of yamaha and comfortable feel but the weight is a serious problem so actually for live set I can not use it do to heavy weight .

I'm no help to you because I happen to think soloing the split pickup on a Yamaha BB is a pretty great P-bass tone. Soloing the mid pickup on a G&L L2000 in series mode is also a great P bass. Theres a ton more.....a P-bass voicing isnt rocket science: its a series-wired humbucker mounted in that relative position...If you are using a high powered microscope and giant magnifying glass, of course you will find tonal differences between basses -- but, at that magnification, you'll find differences between P basses themselves...but, the point is, you dont need a P-bass to sound like a P-bass.....Whats cool about a P-bass is its "mojo": its a 'thing', and it will make you play and create a certain way by virtue of what it is......and that is a good reason to get one

Yes I thought about trading but things I could get was not fun . Jackson Kelly bird Dave.the body was annoying Because the resting of hand on it was so hard.it was great for pick playing .
Here in my country a fender is doubled in price like a player bass by fender can cost 900 to 1100 $.so choosing and trading take a long time .

You don't need a Fender to get a good p-bass tone! Keep your eye on the used market and take your time.

It sounds like the Yamaha needs to go anyway (I wouldn't keep around a bass that I can't / won't gig), so maybe start by putting an ad to sell it or trade it...who knows, maybe someone will offer you to trade it for something that's a better fit for you? And obviously if you don't find a good trade, it'll be that much money saved towards a new (or used) one.

Squiers! Vintage modified precision PJ, vintage modified jaguar (jazz neck!) Or classic vibe Precision. All near or at MIM quality with a lower price tag. You dont need to break the bank trying out a bass you may not like. But youll like it

I have a beautiful Ibanez Sr 1300 (it's great Bass and I can't be more comfortable with the neck )
I have Yamaha bb415 in beautiful color and it's the most 5 string neck I ever touched .even Ibanez 5bstring necks were too thick for me so it's kind of the best match .
I have fender rumble 100 ,still learning use it but I get nice tone with it.(expect for slap )

Because I feel my Ibanez sound is not that fat that I like and my Yamaha sound good but still far from that .but the reason I'm asking this is that I can't choose between buy a 5 or 4 strong.If I buy five string I rarely use the b string that much rare that in my career I touched my Yamaha b string 5 time .I enjoy 4 string because I can play aggrasaggr witgowi be worry about string space or the sound they may make by accidentally touch b
So I'm stuck here that forsy do I need a bass or I need other thing ?
If yes a five or four strings ?
Fender 5er are too big for me so they are out plus sadly 35 inch basses .

To the OP is this the newer 1300 with the Nordstrands? Those should sound pretty big but instead of buying a new bass you could always try new PUPs or even a preamp pedal, it’ll be cheaper

IMO, no.
Check adjust pick-up heights, string action/height bass set-up etc.
Check if your strings are "dead."
Consider next larger gauge of strings etc.
Play with your amp EQ etc.
One of my basses is an Ibanez 4 string with light gauge strings, HipShot drop tuner, appropriately set-up and it sounds FAT when desired.
Take it from a recovering GAS patient, harder to kick than heroin or nicotine.
