Or an Ibanez 4 string. Small necks and light weight .
If you don’t use a B string and don’t like wide necks or added weight then get a 4 string.
Trade or sell what you have and get your hands on some basses and see what you like as far as pickups and specs are concerned.
It does sometimes take a while and trial and error to figure out what you like.

Sounds like you prefer 4 stings and Pbasses. Maybe try a Sterling Ray or SUB MusicMan style bass .

You did mention your budget. If you want all under the hood: 5-string & petite and hefty P-power, i d'offer you the Steinberger L2-5 ... but you'll have to let go 5000$; worth any penny for a lifetime friendship.

If you can’t get a P sound out of the Yamaha, you don’t need a new bass but more practice. Different strings and a good setup might help too...

That said, if the B string is getting in the way of your playing and you have no use for it, replacing the Yamaha is a legitimate reason to look for a new 4-string bass... plenty good choices, including 4 string Yamahas!!

I have a beautiful Ibanez Sr 1300 (it's great Bass and I can't be more comfortable with the neck )
I have Yamaha bb415 in beautiful color and it's the most 5 string neck I ever touched .even Ibanez 5bstring necks were too thick for me so it's kind of the best match .
I have fender rumble 100 ,still learning use it but I get nice tone with it.(expect for slap )

Now I'm thinking about a fat humbucker or p bass tone.something better than my Yamaha ,like a fender p bass sound .
Because I feel my Ibanez sound is not that fat that I like and my Yamaha sound good but still far from that .but the reason I'm asking this is that I can't choose between buy a 5 or 4 strong.If I buy five string I rarely use the b string that much rare that in my career I touched my Yamaha b string 5 time .I enjoy 4 string because I can play aggrasaggr witgowi be worry about string space or the sound they may make by accidentally touch b

Well, the first thing I would suggest is if it is a choice between a 4 or 5 string configuration, think about the music you want to play and let that drive your choice. Personally, I have both and they are tools for specific musical projects.

As for 4 vs 5. I started playing 4 string basses back in the 60’s until two years ago, and certainly understand the adjustment of switching to a 5 string. What I’ve found is, you need to put the time into it, just like when your first started. If you avoid 5 strings altogether, you will never know just how useful that tool may be. A lot of today’s music requires notes below low E, and it may cost you a gig(s) to be without it.

The second, for me the most important thing is how does it sound? A great playing and or good looking instrument is worthless if it sounds like crap. Do not compromise here. Trust me, there is nothing worse than listening to your recordings from 40 years ago and finding out that you didn’t make a real good choice of an instruments. Been there.

The third thing is take your time, be patient before making a decision. There is no rush as there will always be another bass up for sale some where. I waited years from the the time I realized I wanted a German built active Warwick ‘Corvette STD 5 string to show up at the right price. It finally did at GC for an unbelievable price.

Sounds like he's not really into 5-string basses. If I were in this situation, I'd get a 4-string version of that Yamaha or a 4-string Fender P.

This is Talkbass. we don’t give sage advice here. We’re an enablement club. The answer to “should I buy a new bass” is:

Buy two. And a backup.

And a backup for the backup, just in the worst case that something goes amiss. And then a backup for that backup, cuz, well, you never know.

No. You won't get what you want from a Fender P-bass. You won't get a fatter sound, and it will have a thicker neck.

That Ibanez SR1300 is all you need in 4-string bass. It can easily cop a P-bass sound.

If you just want a P-bass, by all means get one. String it with flats, get a tort pickguard, and receive peer adulation on TB. And probably only play it twice a year.

If what you are seeking is: fatter sound, thin neck, 4 strings. I think you might want to consider the Hofner design. Or anything with a humbucker against the fingerboard. Gibson EB-3 is another good option for a fatter sound with a thinner neck.

In a related story...

A woman I'm good friends with at work's husband is starting to get crazy with guitar GAS. It happens. Since I'm friends with her husband also, she asked that I talk with him. It could have been a comedy skit, I swear . I had the greatest reasons in the world why he shouldn't be buying this $3500 Friedman head that I had never even heard of before, and within about 15 minutes he had me convinced that he absolutely HAD to have it. As well as 2 Mesa Boogie cabs to go along with it.

What made it great was that I started so strong. I mean, I really thought I had him... talking about mortgages, savings, amp weight, knowing that he already loves the gear he currently has...

Just pointless yammering on my part.

People on Talkbass are NOT the ones to go to with this stuff. Wives are much more sensible (no disrespect to female players. They seem a lot wiser with gear spending). I think wives should start a 12 step group, GAS-anon, or something like that.

Those should sound pretty big but instead of buying a new bass you could always try new PUPs or even a preamp pedal, it’ll be cheaper

I know the sr1300 is a nice bass but maybe the active EQ is part of the problem- too many options. I think a preamp might only compound the problem. Sometimes you just want the plug-n-play simplicity of a passive P bass.

I by no means advocate chasing perfection by buying more; but i do advocate getting the right bass for you. I myself am back down to 1 bass after briefly owning 2; i found the right bass for me...

Sounds like @wishforbass isnt happy with the yamaha. A nice active soundgear and a passive p bass (or whatever bass pleases him) and he has his basses covered. Pun intended.

Kinda of Joe Nerve said; asking Talkbass if you need a new bass is the equivalent of asking a bar full of alcoholics if you need another drink!

That being said, I think a P bass would be a nice addition to your stable. A used MIM with a future pickup upgrade (if you feel it's necessary) would be my recommendation.
