Do I need an 8x10?

Since your in the UK why not used Trace Elliot gear, plenty to be had on ebay and I'm sure other places for pretty cheap. They amps are very reliable too. Just a thought if you want quality and are in a lower price range.

I'd get a used nicer SWR stuff thats a notch above the workingmans cabinets and still come out for less or even to new.

Ye, I have to say, there is LOADS of Trace stuff on ebay. Dont have an ebay account though, is it safe?:o lol

Probably get a good deal off there if it is safe to buy without trying.

Any good/bad experiences with ebay?

I have never been real keen on ebay, since I found my bass trombone teachers trombone on ebay after it had been stolen a month previous:scowl:

try a search for something like 2x10 or 1x12 under £600 or something along those lines, read the reviews that are on this site as well and check out Invalid Link Removed for lots of reviews on everything that you could want to know about.

dont worry about ebay, just make sure that you buy from bidders with good feedback.

about the trace stuff, look out for the old stuff there is some nice solid state stuff to be had if you look, just keep your eyes pealed.

Ahhh, life in the pits.

1) Space is tight.
2) The "mix" involves violins, clarinets, and flutes.
3) Any decent show will have a significant sound system with a network of mics and DI's in the pit.

4) Go get yourself a GK MB150S112; or the E, if you want to be fancy. That's all you will need.

The tone is the last thing anyone will be paying attention to. Playing your parts accurately, with good time, and most of all dynamics with great eyes up on the conductor will be the main thing. The amplifier is about the last thing that matters. IME.

If you get an ebay account to bid on Trace stuff, if you have zero feedback try and talk to the seller beforehand and let them know your intentions and that you actaully are a sincere buyer. They might cancel your bid if you don't thinking that you are just a deadbeat bidder w/ zero feedback (there are a plenty of these types of bidders so this is why seller's sometimes are hesitant).

Or even better if you have a friend with a setup account maybe they can help you.

If you buy from a seller with more than 15+ feedback with more than 97% or higher feedback they very likely the are a reputable and good seller. Remember, the more good feedback the better.

There are definately plenty of good deals on Trace Elliot items on ebay UK, it makes me somewhat jealous here in the US. And rarely do peole want to ship overseas. :( :help:

A thought about the 8x10 is that a lot of musicians, especially those who are not experienced with amplified instruments, will think that you are too loud, merely because your amp looks loud.

My uncle who owns a reputable motorcycle business in the North West UK deals alot of accessories on ebay, he has a lot of good feedback, so I will get it using his account:D

Probably will go Trace Elliot then! Hopefully a 2x10 and a 1x15 at some stage, with the best head I can buy! Looking forward to doin some bidding!:p

I like the old Trace 2x10s - they are designed to be either on their side, or on top of another cab. One of the few cabs that I think was designed to go both ways. I used to gas for one really bad when I first got into bass playing.
