Do people really quit talkbass?

Looks like chuck norriss has Xtreo's disease. That could cause him some serious problems.

I didnt notice chuck_norriss much, aside from the name, around here before, but I do remember when his girlfriend claimed she was taking his account over. Seems she is more outspoken than he was, though whenever I see the name now I assume its her. For all I know he could have been making some of those posts, but Id never have been able to tell, which is why I asked.

Yeah, I see where that could cause some trouble somewhere at some place in time.

I imagine that many of the people we don't see much of anymore are still around, they just don't post much anymore, as others have insinuated. I'm the same way: after being a forum member for a few years (whichever the site is), I usually just lurk rather than post my opinions. I still visit a good number of subforums here, but I rarely post outside of off topic. I just don't see the point.

also, I concur that most of the people posting in Basses are wankers :D

Thats not ironic at all. For all we know, those so called experts could be 1st chair in one or more orchestras. In fact, what is ironic, is you describing their arrogance whilst simultaneously showing your own.

Posters like YOU are why a lot of people walk away from forums. Countless people (especially rockabilly players) have noticed the same damn thing over there. And no, very FEW of those doublebass jazz and classical posters are "experts" anywhere but in their own minds. There may be a few real pros there (like here), but reading those posts on the DB side, it is WAY more then a few who post with that much supposed authority.
I have seen your other posts in this thread. You are really on a roll today!

Posters like YOU are why a lot of people walk away from forums.

You mean posters like me who question those who throw around their merits like if that gives them the final say so? I question everything. I dont deny you your position, and Im sure you know what youre talking about, but I think it more likely that its posters like you who turn people off of forums. I dont mean anything personal by it, but the snobbery in your post what made me comment, and I found it a little funny, being that you were claiming snobbery from others all the while.

Posters like YOU are why a lot of people walk away from forums....

Please speak for yourself. If you don't like Matticus (and people like him), that's fine. Personally, I quite enjoy - and agree with - most of the stuff he posts.

I have also found that years of experience and levels of accomlishment does not always equal knowledge about all related topics. For example, some of the best and most experienced musicians I know are ignorant about technical issues related to their gear.

You don't even know me. Like I said, check out the DB side. It's all about name dropping who you hung out with a this and that seminar and master class. Think I am bullshitting? Go see for yourself. It's true NOT because I said it, but because it IS.

Of course, what do I know? I am not a professional forum jockey like you. (yeah, you started posting 3 hours ago and have steadily done so every 2-3 minutes). Sorry, but you blow me away. I can't keep up. And though I made a highly positive post about your band a while back ago, I can't figure out why you singled me out for an attack. Like i said, you don't know me at all...and....my post was not directed to you, but to the denizens of the DB forum...do you even play DB? If not, you have NO idea what they are like. You won't find bigger gear snobs anywhere else. If you are not playing a 20,000 dollar german made bass, you are nothing over there. Yeah, I play in orchestras and am around these people all the time. Most of them are very arrogant, and they have bad attitides and typical western gunslinger demeanor. Always trying to be the top dogs.

I never claimed to know you, it was what you conveyed in your post that I spoke to. I also never claimed that your opinion on the DB posters was wrong, Im sure youre right, so much so that I can take you for your word. What I was saying is that you displayed the same traits you claim to dislike from the DB side here, in the post that I originally quoted.

No need to try and make things personal here, man. Yes, Ive been online a lot, as I usually am when Im stuck in the office and have completed all the work I need to get done. Good on you for tracking the time I spend online.

Thanks, I appreciate your positive comments about my band. I didnt single you out for any sort of attack. If you think of my post as an attack Id hate to see how you'd react to someone who was actually trying to piss you off. Again, Im not disagreeing with you on the nature of TBDB posters, I dont go over that way.

Most of them are very arrogant, and they have bad attitides and typical western gunslinger demeanor. Always trying to be the top dogs.

You exhibit this very behavior in the post that I originally quoted, and every subsequent post youve made in this thread following it.

All right! I give, I give! I can't take the rabid alt-rock attack!

I therefore take everything back. Those people over on the DB side are the sweetest folk this side o' heaven!

They are very welcoming to newcomers, hold rockabilly in high regard and never diss you because you don't play on $500 Damien Duglecky gut strings!

:D

See, I told you so!

Sorry, but the DB guys put me up to it. Money talks, and with gear like that I can only assume they have cash.

I have come to the conclusion that to be a DB player, especially in the classical world...yeah, you need to be either rich, or have wealthy parents. I know one kid in the conservatory of a local college here that has a 19,000 dollar Wilfer bass, with the C extension.

My bass costs about 2000 new. Honestly, I can't always tell the difference in tone, anyway. It sounds good enough for me. But don't tell the DB guys here!

I'm not an expert or opinionated enough to argue in the Basses or Amps sections, but I actually like watching you guys argue in OT sometimes. Matty's squabbles ( like that one up there ^) are pretty entertaining. That boy just wont shut up until the other person loses it! :D

I'm never leaving TB.

EDIT: Now they've made up, I guess.....

Don't mention it on the Bass Guitar side either. There are some jokers who never learned any better and insist you can't get a similar sound out of a $200 bass than you can out of a $2000 bass, even though the chances of the electrics sounding more similar than uprights of varying price is vastly greater due to the vastly simplified construction and low price of parts for electrics. Don't you just hate those guys whose eyes focus on dollar signs rather than their ears? ;)
