Do people really quit talkbass?

I think most people that have been here for a decade just get very selective in the posts they respond too. When you've been here as long as myself, Joe, and many others have, you seem to see the same type of posts popping up over and over again.

Or just toss in a title at Song Uno every now and them to try to keep our post counts up.

Yessir!!! :hyper:

Uh.....................Everything?

Did you know how hard it is to Google image "asian redhead" and actually find a pic to post that WON'T result in a permaban?

At this point, I'm quietly confident that 5stringblues has "WIN" tattooed on his forehead. Under the tiara, i.e. :D

A forum like this I wouldn't quit because of the market and buy/sell subforums here. Though I don't get too involved with forums anyways, don't have the time anymore.

The one forum I did get involved in I quit posting in because of how dumb the influx of new users were. I was genuinely knowledgeable of the main forum topics as it was related to my job and career. But to see relatively clueless people come in and undermine my legit posts was annoying. FWIW the influx of new users came from a 4chan subforum that was based on a similar topic. They were your generic 15 year old meme spamming "know-it alls".

It's so bad there that I won't even buy or sell there anymore(they have a marketplace like here). Which is kind of funny because I have lots of things that they would jump at to purchase because it's no longer made or from past seasons. But because of the hype and group think these people generated they are very sought after (clothing).

The main forum pages are unreadable because the same threads get posted every week by new users who don't know how to utilize forum features like search. And the same group of new b-tard users bash the newbies over and over creating an extremely hostile and bitter environment.

are you sure you're not talking about TB? :hiding:

edit: or the DB side? lmao

It happens in loads of forums, especially one that may attract a younger group of members. But I've never read too much into the DB forums because I don't play that. At a glance I would assume the DB forums would be the most gentlemanly of them all. lol

Time in grade is far less important than post count.

Is post count important? I've seen a few comments in my (short) time here alluding to the significance of this. And I've noticed that on my profile page (using the App), the 'number of posts' tally at the top of the page isn't the same as the 'number of posts' tally at the bottom when you tap 'show all my posts'. Am I missing something obvious or is it a glitch? Is it the same for other users?

Remember watching the Tube vs. SS amp thread with JimmyM and SeaMonkey having it out? I bought the local shop out of their popcorn whilst that one was going.

Don't see that much of SeaMonkey now?? I think JimmyM may have made him walk away with his tail firmly planted between his legs...

Posts in OT do not count.

I now feel like a serial multi-quoter.

First of all:
Bruce Lindfield.

People do pass away. :hiding:
The only ones I heard about were Rickbass and joegeezer. Sold a bass to joe, very nice guy, Used to do some uphill Harley racing.

I always wondered what happen to that dude that took everyone's money for a benefit cause (for another bass player that was having a rough time)...

There was a huge thread about it...I think Tom Bowlus got screwed in the deal as well..or something like that...
Yep...that's it...Glad at least some of the money was recovered and donated to a couple of great causes...thanks to T. Bowlus, Thor, and a few others...

Oh God, what a nightmare. That was Mike Winnen, he scammed a lot of folks and won't be back anytime soon. Mike Fredericks was not involved in that per se, other than trying to come to Mike's defense as a friend. The scam was to help TB'er jeffbass28, who never saw a dime of it anyway.

Was that the tour from hell thread from like 3 years ago?
That thread was hilarious

As one person said, people do die. I can think of about three Tb'ers off the top of my head that I know have died since I joined, and I know that many others have gone on also. I can also see people leaving out of loss of interest.

I have stopped posting on the Basses forum so much simply because I have really slowed down on bass purchasing and I am not GAS-ing as consistently. In fact, spending so much time on OT has nearly gotten me tossed from TB, although I admit that learning to click on report thread, instead of arguing has made my life simpler.:D

I stay out of the basses forum for the same reason.

Pete McFerrin, Dave Castelo, Mike Money, and Matt Till immediately come to mind. Then there was the Polly fake suicide!

Dave was in med school and I assume the rigors of a medical career now consume his time. McFerrin was funny, very witty guy. Kind of like Mark Latimour without the manpurse.

I used to go by Nickthebassist

Nice try Q.

Wow. Don't make me bump the qintar fence thread.

How about DeluxeRed? The guy who got bassists fired just by the power of his pure awesomeness?

That is in the TB HOF thread. Priceless.

I'm glad that Eric618 guy finally disappeared. He was an @$$.
I'll say.

No kidding.

Yeah I get it. I realise now how I completely misinterpreted the OP, for which I have apologised.

And after some thought, the idea that statistically there are bound to be some TB'ers that have died, I found it quite sad...the thought that your TB account hangs around in the ether whilst your material world just ends. Weird. And a tad creepy.

I have noticed that Paul has kept the Supporting Memberships and avatars of deceased members active.

So, what do you do when a friend passes? Delete their email address, unfriend the FB page? It's not just weird only here. I have a friend whose email is still in the addy book. Just seems so final to delete it.

Makes me wonder if there is an amount of time, inactivity-wise, before a mod or admin deletes an inactive account?
No. The old OT posts were archived some time back and I think some of the member data there was lost.

mike_v_s? Whatever happened to that automatic toilet paper dispenser?

He found that the effort of modding a forum here to be too painful and moved on to blimpier pastures.

:D Wow. Go down there and start a thread, tell them you just picked up a used DB and are considering playing it at your gig next Saturday. Then duck. Lmao.

As noted by another user, OT posts are not included in the post count figure. Kind of took the fun out of it for some of the OT guys who would post '.' or '+1'.

Sundogue did announce his leaving with a thread a few years back. He got over the fence but the dogs eventually got him.

As to the post about the basses and particulary the amps forum, there is a reason why my sig says what it says. Yes, it is an area where technical types spar a bit. Some of those types, like bgavin, get tired of sparring and move on.

Ed Fuqua is still around, but I always enjoyed when he decided to take some particulary egregious and obnoxious moron to task. The man is a master, like a surgeon with a scalpel. Chris Fitzgerald has him behaving pretty well nowadays, but I miss the rapier wit.

I knew who that is , it wasnt a girl it was a guy posing as a girl and they had multiple accounts

No, the one Im speaking about was really a girl. Though her username was similar to another persons. I should know, as I accidentally bumped my car into hers at In N Out. She had posted about it on here, and I was the one in the other car.

I have considered quitting several times, but getting banned a lot seemed to solve the problem.

TB is a great place to find out about gear you otherwise would not know about. The pictures of different basses alone are worth it. The technical information here is vast, and the section of band management is usually very interesting.

That being said, there are a few things I don’t like.

In any forum, there are always a group of people that achieve an almost cult leader-like status. Everyone tries to agree with them, and backs them up. That is very true with this forum.
They come off as experts, and everyone agrees. Thing is, once you hear them play in some clip or vid, you can see that they are average at best. TB is not a meritocracy, where the best players are taken seriously. It’s all about your popularity and how good you are at “eArguing”, and also, how persistent you are.

An example would be how I pointed out a simple thing: A 100 dollar bass is just a 100 dollar bass, and cannot compare on any level with a 2000 dollar bass. But the 100 dollar bass is hyped here in a big way. Facts are facts, and the pros don’t play or record (for the most part) on a 100 dollar bass. Even those pros that don’t have endorsements don’t use something that cheap. But, most people here on this forum disagreed with me. But the facts were on my side. Hi end bass builders cannot be wrong, and a bunch of internet weekend warriors be right. In the end, I was told over and over again that basically, basses are unique as that they are the ONLY piece of equipment in ANY field of endeavor that demonstrates no difference in tone or feel from bass to bass.

Pro racers drive expensive, well made machines. Fashion designers use top material. Good restaurants use better quality ingredients…but for bass, it apparently did not matter!

That being said, I also have never understood the banning policy, or the locking of threads. It makes no sense that someone like “insert name here” can post many political type statements and threads, clearly very right-wing, and nothing happens. Others, like me, get banned for the same thing.
And locking threads? Why? If I see something I don’t like, I just avoid it. You have users here running to the mods to “report” you for very insignificant things. Why? Can’t people handle different opinions?

In my mind, as long as there are no death threads or obvious racist items, why ban people and why lock topics? Geez! Get over it. You don’t like someone’s opinion, don’t read it! Skip over it! How much simpler can it get? And can people stop tattling to the mods? That is sooooo lame! Personally, I think people take things far too seriously here.

In the end, you have to guess that TB includes an awful lot of younger posters, with little experience in anything other then the internet. No wonder they are all over bassists such as Jauqo III-X, trying to argue with him. When some stoner/doom metal bassist can play as well as Jauqo, THEN I will listen to their opinion.
