You boys play nice,I'll be back around 3 A.M.

Don't be fooled, dude. Lucas can bring it. Ask him what he thinks about metal. Go ahead, dare ya.

Nah! I don't hate metal. I can respect any type of music that is well played. As far as metal, I used to like it just fine when I was a kid. AC/DC and Priest were among my favorite bands. Then along came hair metal and well....let's just say that I didn't leave metal..it left ME!
:)

Of course, metal has changed. Musically, for the better. It seems most of these modern metal bands are polar opposites from the 80's hair metal that was SO popular in my neck of the woods. But now you have the cookie monster growling vocals...and well, I don't like pro wrestling much either. Seems like those wrestlers could in fact be in modern metal bands and no one would notice!

I still like Metal. If I am on my way to the gym, sometimes it is what I might blast in my car...but at night, retiring for the evening, or relaxing on a weekend....no way. Too energetic for my tastes!

It may be your experience, but it ain't mine. You are honestly going to tell me there is not a whole lot of elitism in the jazz and classical upright world? Oh sure, they are friendly enough, but there is always that undercurrent of hostility. I watch these guys in action. First thing they start doing is showing off how well they can do thumb position vibrato. I have seen this with my own eyes, them doing it and then looking over to see if I was watching them.
And I can remember quite recently, a VERY well known jazz player looking down on me because I dared to bring an orange King DB to a gig. She went much further then just looking down on me, openly and verbally mocking my equipment.

My experience has been that there is elitism in every field, music and otherwise. Since I feel that bad attitudes often speak more about the source than the target, I try to ignore them and seek out those members of the field in question who exemplify skill in the field together with the self assurance and basic human security to not need to have it verified externally because they carry it personally from within. I think those people will always be there if you look for them, as will the other kind. Again, and as always, YMMV.

Perhaps it is the vast amount of training these classical bassists do that makes them feel entitled to look down on those with less experience. I admit, it is pretty high level stuff. I am learning a lot of new and usefull stuff every day, but mostly as a result of my teacher, and playing in various orchestras. I have learned next to nothing from any of these cats on the DB side here. However, I have learned a LOT about gear from the electric side, this side...or as they all it, the "slab" side. Also, the band management section here is a virtual primer on what NOT to do when joining a band or booking gigs. Reading the horror stories here has really opened my eyes.

I just remembered one of my favorites, that guy who said he saved a child's life by knocking them out of the way of a falling tree then woke up in a hospital. And then that thread about how he hated Greeks or something because his landlord was a prick and he was Greek. The child rescuing one really entertained me. What a yob!

Nothing kills a good thread full of OT idiocy quicker than DB players debating DB stuff.

I thought we gave them their own forum for that classicaljazzabilly crap.

Begone Dragons...Begone

Hey Bassybill, I'm trying. If they don't stop, we will have to organize a DB preventative surgical strike. The frothy kind. We can have FurryMonkey borrow an upright, post a sexy picture in DB avec stiletto heels and see who goes into cardiac arrest.

Ninja CWB attack against The Evil Empire.

Yeah, that's got possibilities.

Is post count important? I've seen a few comments in my (short) time here alluding to the significance of this. And I've noticed that on my profile page (using the App), the 'number of posts' tally at the top of the page isn't the same as the 'number of posts' tally at the bottom when you tap 'show all my posts'. Am I missing something obvious or is it a glitch? Is it the same for other users?

You get the answers to all those questions and much, much more once you surpass 10,000 posts.
