I haven't seen blendermassacre around much.

I think his divorce may have went a little messy , tis a shame cuz i thought he was a pretty nice guy. Darkhorse and savit620 dont post like they use to,

What about youridol? this guy use to post alot , was a supporting member etc.

ALot of members that really stand out like tommygunn who use to live on this forum have just really slowed down on posting.

Wow. Reading this thread is very insightful. DB OT doesn't seem to attract a fraction of the traffic this side does.

So when someone gets a ban, are names and reasons posted by the mods or do we just second guess based on the sudden disappearance of a user?

Is the 'punishment tariff' the same for all offenders or does it depend on the nature of the offending comment(s)?

I can only imagine. I wouldn't wish divorce on my worst enemy. I've seen to many good friends get taking down, lose jobs, and end up with nothing.

Yeah, I don't see youridol around much now that you mention it. I'm sure there's more. I have thought many a time about cutting back on TB. I spend way too much time here but I really enjoy it.

Heck, I once drove the entire DB forum into a frothing rage by commenting on how unfriendly they can be to outsiders.

Me too. Some little girl was asking about buying an inexpensive DB and a group of senior supporting members just ripped into her, making snarky comments and in-jokes. It was absolutely ridiculous. I tore into them, can't remember what i said, but the gist was that they were creating an atmosphere of hostility that seemed calculated to drive new students away rather than assist them. I think i actually used the phrase "shame on you."

Anyway, I searched for the post but they must have deleted the thread. Hopefully out of embarrassment.

Names and reasons are NOT posted by the mods, we have to either guess for ourselves, or PM a mod to ask (if we really feel the need). But you have to be careful even when PM'ing to make sure your "tone" is not "challenging"--otherwise you might get an infraction!

The infraction points depend partly on the nature of the offense, and partly on whether the mod in question is feeling crotchety that day.

Not naming names, but there is one lovable mod in particular who gave me infractions far beyond the minor posting offense, resulting in a month's ban. I have reason to believe it was personal.

On the flip side, there have been a couple of times I received just a warning, when indeed that was all that was needed to keep me from going over the line. So I appreciated that, from those mods.

I see. I had a thread closed down because of the descent into a slanging match and I have to say, the PM's I exchanged with that particular mod were cool, calm and very gracious. He took his time to explain the reasoning behind the lock down and I reflected on my part in the debacle and saw why he did what he did. I guess it gave me a better understanding of the ethos of TB and I have enjoyed my time here more as a consequence.

Like I said at the time, if you want to argue with kids and call someone a c***, there's always blabbermouth :)

I even know a few guys who were banned, and don't know why themselves.
