Do Stickers Make a Bass Trashy?

Never would put a sticker on my bass. It was the popular thing to do during my teen years. Everyone had to have a skateboard and a guitar covered in stickers. The skateboard would soon be busted and the guitar would be beaten up too and covered in a sticky mess that made it unplayable. It's my superstition that stickers shorten the lifespan of whatever they are placed on.
Only stickered basses I have came that way from the factory:

It depends. Never, under any circumstance would a bass over $200 get a sticker put on it if I had it. No Rick, MIA, MIM, Stingray, nothing would have or ever get a sticker.

BUT, I wouldn't put a sticker on my Jag SS either and it's not over $200.

An Affinity, some Silvertone or Samick knockoff anything like that then yeah. And only if it was going to be kept, because the sticker will really make it personal.

Howbeit, I did go to the music store not too long ago and there was some P knockoff they had there with a really cool "MoonEyes" sticker on it. I woulda bought the bass and kept that sticker. It really depends. Some friends of mine have band stickers on their axes. I wouldn't do that, or buy there axes because of it. I would only do it if I was to keep a bass and it was a cheapo bass.

there are people, who would NEVER write notes in a book, because it has to stay the way it came from the store, and others would write notes, maybe even scribble stuff on the pages as they read along.
i guess it's about the personality of these people, and about taste.

plus, it depends on the bass. but not on the price or value, but on the sound.
a really mellow sounding bass has to look nice. but a really aggressive bass should look like that too. it stickers help, then why not.

here's my SKC BOGART. the best 4 string i ever played !
the neck is the definition of "stable", if feels so comfortable, is light weight. has seen a lot of playing since 1993, and as a result has quite some "mojo". thats no relic job !

Yes, but so do fishnet stockings and spike heels on a hot chick, and I like those......so it`s all a matter of taste. Sometimes trashy is hot.....sometimes it`s just trashy. Trash is in the eye of the beholder.

Even a discussion about stickers on bass can bring out the ********... seriously guys sort yourselves out.

Stickers on basses are fine imho. A few of mine sported Grateful Dead style 'steal yer face' images for a while. Infact I might order up some more...

The only problem I ever have with stickers on basses is when somebody on here says "so I got this gig with a punk band and my bass doesn't look punk enough" so they stick a bunch of cheap and random magazine stickers of mainstream punk bands straddling many eras and movements of punk in a cheap and contrived manner. Real punk basses, as used by punk musicians, often seem to have cryptic, ironic or weird stickers. Obscure hardware or beer brands, expletive-strewn messages and the like seem to be better suited to punk basses.
