Cool thread. Reminds me of the one that discussed people who slobber all over their hands while they are preparing food for other people.
Oh, this is music related because we don't want to miss a gig because of and E. Coli infection. :D

I once had a manager who was one of those "I'm gonna start talking to you and there's no way out" types. I was trying to work when he started talking to me, so I thought myself clever and made my way to the restroom, thinking I could make my escape there. I was wrong, and it was an all-around horrible experience.

Gaahhhhh! I wish I could un-read that...

Well I'm no expert, but I think the real issue is cross-contamination, physical transfer by real contact not just presence, otherwise we'd have to walk around in hazmat suits and wrap everything up.
I had a person who had been to a food prep seminar make a really good case that many people who think they have the flu are really victims of cross contamination.

Well, also consider this little fact. Smells, both good and bad, are actually the inhalation of particulate. So…
Also, you could open another can of worms here to discuss how some researchers have proposed that the emergence of superbugs, allergies, asthma, so on are the result of many of us humans living lives that are "too clean." The concept being that small doses of bad bugs help us build up immunity over time. Eliminate all the bad bugs, you eliminate our immunity.:(
But the original post was really just about a cup of coffee.

I work in construction and some times in the morning I'll find a spent Micky Ds bag in the Portolet.
Eggamuffin hash brown and coffee all wile taking a dump and having a smoke. That's cramming it in before the 7 am jump start.

If the mood strikes, while the mood strikes, then to the left a bass awaits.

I keep a bass permanently in my bathroom. Not for this purpose per se, I play songs whilst the little one have a soak. They like playing with their toys and having epic naval battles together. No dads allowed. So I use the time to practice.

Does your amp fart out in the bathroom?

This thread also made me think of another bathroom-related point of hygiene. My wife brought up an interesting detail about all these motion-operated soap dispensers. The one in our office is fantastic. It always dispenses a nice stream of foamy soap onto your shirtsleeve as you are trying to wash your hands.
But, as my wife pointed out, while motion-activated faucets make sense, why would you care about motion-activated soap dispensers? You use the soap dispenser before you wash your hands so it's a bit of overkill. (P.S. I know that from a building maintenance standpoint they can be more efficient and regulate the amount of soap used).

Agree 100%. Not a can of worms at all. Fact is I tell people this all the time.Let me put it this way. Smelling crap particulate (odor ) ,vs putting it in your mouth. A normal immune system is equipped for the former, not so much for the latter. Gradual exposure strengthens a normal immune system.
So it's sort of like the argument about protective gear that quickly nosedives into all or nothing arguments. It's always good to maximize your chances. Everybody will make their choice, ultimately.

If there's a lid, sure, I'll bring it in and leave it on a shelf while I do my stuff. Specifically, this shelf is very far from the closest urinal and elevated. An uncovered coffee cup, I am not sure if I would, even though my mind tells me it's safe.

Man this thread is entertaining. Also makes me think of the conversation with my friend about the little "hole in the wall" joints in backwater neighborhoods where the little old ladies with the black dirt under their fingernails would put out some awesome ethnic grub cheap !
