After having a kidney stone last year that was the size of a chickpea, I make certain that I have access to plenty of water at all times.
And a drop of food grade lemon oil might not hurt either.

I used to keep MREs under my desk at work & they come in handy sometimes, like when the locals are protesting outside & the road is blocked, or there's a monsoon outside.

I've had MRE's but my entire time in the USMC it was C rations out in the field. We would occasionally get hot food brought up for a meal, but that was a rare and TBH rather gross experience, especially breakfast. Something in the powdered eggs would react with the aluminum inserts in the VAT cans, putting a nice green ring around the eggs top to bottom. The longer they sat in the cans, the thicker the green ring got. I'm paranoid if I don't have water accessible at all times or am going to a place that will not have water accessible.
I always carry a Nalgene with a liter of water, a Benchmade knife, and a zippo.
Believe it not I once got stranded in the woods for 4 days/3 nights. If not for some of the stuff I had on me I would've probably died of exposure. As it was, I got very lucky and was blacking out and nearing the end of my physical endurance level when I managed to contact civilization.
Since then I have made an effort to be more prepared (even though I just plan to avoid the situation). I'd love a Benchmade "tactical" pen (it's got a nice grip and is kinda pointy at one end), but they're really expensive.
Okay, sorry, I've been looking at too many knives and pens lately. Found an old gift card and ended up with a nicer Parker fountain pen than I would normal purchase. Still looking at a couple damascus blades (Benchmade, Boker, and a place that does custom inlay work on some cool stuff).
But, yes, water is something I typically have 1.5-2 liters of on me or in my car daily. It beats all other water-related options.

Taking a trip on the 'Rad? You bet your Bippy I do... Otherwise, no I don't. Plenty of water to be had here in Vegas, and - regardless of what lots of people think - the tap water here is just fine. Most bottled water is out of a reverse-osmosis machine, and I had to drink way too of it when I was in the military. To me, that stuff is just plain nasty; tastes like a tin can... I won't drink it unless I absolutely have to, and I damn sure ain't paying for it, either...

If you had to drink the poop that comes out of the ground where I live you might buy bottled water too. Well water is water and that's about it.
Just to wander on-topic 
I've found that it can be hard to stay hydrated during load-ins and load-outs - you're usually too busy to go to the bar and wait/fight to be served water. I usually bring a 2 liter bottle of diet coke and a large Subway sub cut into four pieces - even if they serve food it can be a real PITA to order and they often shut down the kitchen about when I'm hungry 
. If they have pitchers I'll usually get one filled with water for my side of the stage and a couple plastic cups if it's not too busy at the bar
