Do you hang your basses up on your wall?

Yup. I hung a few in the garage~!

START WITH:

One average suburban two-car garage, typically packed to the gunwales with your junk. Truck off the keeper items to mini-storage, give away the rest to Goodwill or the dumpsters, and start with a fresh coat of paint. Put a large air-conditioner in the wall (A MUST here in Deep East Texas). Then, build wall shelves, bass case shelves and install 4X8 sheets of "mock" brick along one wall. Add LONG 2X4s and many, many bass hangers. Pull all the basses and cases out of every bedroom closet, under-the-stairs closet, living room hangers, etc. Hang all the basses up. DONE! It took me and a friend a couple of weeks (in our spare time). OP, I hope this helps (or makes you at least as crazy as I am)!

Requisite space heater, too, I see. I had in-laws in Weslaco so I think I understand ... Their heat was supplied by above-floor gaslines.

I have a bad habit (no more) of mounting hangers into drywall. Don't kid yourself, your bass will fall.

Left to right - Ken Lawrence Brase I, Lakland 55-94 and a MTD 535 - top is macassar ebony and the neck is wenge/wenge. I am blaming my addiction to MTD's on Norm Stockton...he got me started and I am a serial MTD addict.

FWIW, the Ken Lawrence is a swamp ash body with a myrtle top, pau ferro board and a 3-piece maple neck. The Lakland is a 2001 55-94D that my wife surprised me with. We were at Orlando and I was checking out basses at Bass Central. A couple days after we got back to California that bass (my favorite I played that day) showed up. I guess she was doing more than passing time talking to Grasshopper!

That is why I screwed the board into the wall studs with 3" screws! If that comes off the wall, I have a MUCH bigger problem than the basses falling!

Thanks! IMHO, the Ken Lawrence basses are even better but that is just my opinion. I can say, I sold a Fodera to buy the Ken Lawrence, though.

On the MTD - I play at churches and pull some high end out of the tone (my preference for that bass). If you want to see/hear some AMAZING bass playing, check out Norm Stockton on Yoot-Ube. I was truly honored to be able to take lessons from him.

FWIW, I use a small pedalboard at church (Cali76 Compact Bass into a HX Stomp controlled by a Morningstar MC6) and the patches I use vary with the bass used and the song. One of the songs for this weekend is a lot of fun and I use a more driven sound for it than the other songs. Bass for this weekend is a Sadowsky 5-21 Satin.



We are doing it up a full step to match the vocalist's range better.

Actually, they live under a carport outside. The motorcycle and the basses get to live in the garage. A man's got to have priorities!

Yeah, dry dusty weather in SoCal is not fun. I was surprised at how much LESS dust there is here in Florida so the biggest part of our floor care is the shedding from our German Shepherd and Golden Retriever!

All in all, our move out of California after living there has been incredibly better for many reasons. And saving $13k per year on state taxes is only one of them. Services from the government here are as good as there but - when you get smiling faces at Florida's equivalent of the DMV, it is SHOCKING!

I keep 2 in gig bags, three hung up and one on a stand at all times.

I was always skittish about wall hangers but my wife kept encouraging me to hang up my basses like art so I finally caved in. They're much more accessible than they were in the closet in cases. The room is going to be painted a different color soon and the support boards will match the wall paint.

Nice work! I'm about to hang up 5 basses of mine in a spare (now music) room. What size screws did you use to mount the 2 x 4s to the studs? Nice avatar!
