Do you hang your basses up on your wall?

I really would like to hang them, but I don't have any good wall space.
So I had a friend build a stand after my own design.

Get nice hangers like Hercules or String Swing, hit a stud and you’ll be off and running.

I used to have them on the walls of my office/music room, but with nerve damage at my neck spinal cord making difficult to reach up, I moved them to a closet.

I love the look of the wall hung instruments, but living in California am fearful what even a relatively minor earth shaker could do to them......

I'm seeing a lot of people mention earthquakes. This risk can be mitigated by not storing anything above your basses.

If earthquakes are strong enough to make your instruments swing, soft foam can be placed on the wall behind both the body and the head.

If earthquakes are strong enough to make 5+ pound instruments jump off padded holders straight enough and with enough momentum to clear the tips, you have bigger fish to fry. Tell the folks on TalkQuakes I said 'what's up'.

I live in Cascadia Subduction Zoneland ('Everything west of I-5 will be toast,' said someone who gets paid to know these things) and my elevation is 15' above sea level, which means below river level most of the year. If the shaking doesn't get me, the tsunami will. At that point, none of this matters.

But in a milder seismic event, I'm still not worried about the basses. Although I like them and they suit my needs just fine, neither are precious heirloom instruments. The Squier has parts in it that are about 2/3 of its $150 purchase cost new, and the Yamaha... well, I'd hate to lose it but frankly if it fell off the wall it might hurt whatever's below it.

I hang them. Made sure all mounting screws are in studs. Solid, and never had a problem...

I have 7 basses. I rotate them out semi-regularly on these 2 wall hangers.

No. All Basses, electric and upright, all stay in their gig bags when not being played. Air is bad for wood and strings and requires more work on your setup. I worked in guitar stores for decades. I’ve seen the creeping death that lurks in the air lol.

I haven't had any setup issues from wall-hanging, so far. When December rolls around I sometimes need to tweak the tuners an eighth of a turn, once, but it's great to have a bass choice ready at my fingertips. I just pick up and play.

In the summer I keep a bass out and at least one acoustic six string. When winter time comes and humidity gets low they all stay in the cases.

Meh. I leave ‘em out year round, facing the window or not. It doesn’t bother them one bit. Maybe because I build the necks nice and stable.

Anyway, they’re just tools for rocking out. Not precious about ‘em.

Metal pegboard wall and Hercules pegboard hangers. This was in May... I've moved the Bee down and to the door to make room for a 3rd panel.

Whatever you do, DO NOT use the Hercules long arm hangers. I had one break on me. It sheared right off with a 9 pound bass hanging from it. It happened after a year or so.

That's almost exactly what I've drawn up for after the move, except that the top shelf will be solid for all the small bodied headless instruments.

Right. There's no air in gigbags. I still have my late wife's Yamaha acoustic that spent 30y of it's life on a stand by a large glass door where with the right wind direction could get salt spray directly from the ocean. Then there's all those old Strads. Must be no good.

When my house got broke into, only the hanging ones were stolen. My 65 jazz was in a hard case and they left it. Don't hang any since then.
