Do you have a fear of breaking strings

I didn't know this was an encore performance.

Regarding tires: I keep my spare in the cargo compartment (not stowed beneath), compressor, plug kit, 2-3 gauges, jumper cables, and can of bear repellant.

i've never broken a bass string. i change them once a year typically.

I'm pretty sure the last time I saw a broken bass string happen was during a high school talent show (too many years ago). the bassist broke the A string on the school's P-bass while playing. who knows how old the strings were or what sort of abuse they had taken from other students...

Nope, I don't worry.

Once I was putting a brand new set of $300+ strings on my DB and the G string snapped while tuning to pitch the first time :poop:

The dealer immediately sent a spare but I checked those strings all the time to see if they were starting to unwind. When I was time again to buy a new set I got something different.

Negative. I have never once broken a string while playing.

However, I did once break a string as I attempted to tune someone else's bass, when I was a teenager. That sucked bigtime. It took forever to find a single RotoSound A string in the mid-70s. It cost ten damned dollars, too.

I've never broken a string while playing in almost 25 years.

Years ago I had two straight packs of Chromes where the G string came unraveled at the tuning peg while I was installing them. Turns out there was a really sharp point on my Stingray tuning peg that was causing it so I had a tech file it down smooth.

The last time I feared breaking a string was when installing Cobalt flats because of all the horror stories I've read on here, but nothing happened.

I watched a recent interview where Pino Palladino said the strings on (I believe) his main Precision Bass were put on in 1993. He plays far more than me I think :)

In the same interview I believe he may have said he has only broken a bass string once. The context was him talking about preferring the old strings, and he said that they put a new string on but it sounded totally different from the others and it didn't work at all. This was on the questlove supreme podcast.

with my 1st bass, as a total newb, I had it home for 10 minutes, and was tuning up with a headstock tuner. The G string would not tune and was way too low. I was determined to bring up "up to pitch"....well, an octave later "POING!"...had to go back to the store and admit my goof up :rollno:...the guy I knew just laughed in a knowing manner and gave me a new spare g string, tells me it is not the 1st time it happens to people....made me feel somewhat better

lesson learned (and passed on whenever I can) :)
