Do you own multiples of the same bass? Why?

Same thing happened to me. I had brief affairs with other bases, they all ended as soon as I went back to my Stingray5. Got a second one to have as a backup some years ago when gigging more often than nowadays. Early this year, and after looking into some other basses for versatility I decided a 2 PU thin neck EBMM was the furthest I wanted to go, so I got a Sterling5 HS, same neck profile as my SR5s but sorta P/J-ish (with added balls and playability). That's it for me.

Not a huge fan of white PG's, but that green SR 5er is really nice. The neck alone is gorgeous.

Most recent duplication for me is the Yamaha BB425x.

The reason is because the BB series of 2017 is going to be overhauled and I'm partial to the looks/tone/vibe, etc. of the current series.

Plus, different color choices of your favorite basses are always cool for any 'ole reason at all.

However, one is sunburst with a white guard while the other is black on black, so, no, I only own very different basses.

Different tunings. For a while I had one Lakland 44-02 tuned CGCF and anothet tuned BEAD. The idea was to have as similar a sound as possible with two different setups. It didn't work out because getting the exact as instruments, with no variations is pretty hard to do.

four fretless instruments (5 actually, but one is 'unfinished'). two of them are the same manufacturer/model --- different colors --- they are my gigging basses. they are both lightweight for the gig.

It's the only bass I play, so I duplicated it with a second one - same setup, same strings, batteries, straplocks, straps, colors, fretfx, case - everything I could. That way I dont have to make any adjustments between basses, and I use them for primary secondary, but they are interchangeable. AND FANTASTIC.

I have three Roscoe Century Standard 5-strings, but they're all different: mahogany/wenge with single-coil JJ pickups, ash/diamondwood fretless with an MM pickup, and alder/pau ferro headless with soapbars. They each have their own feel and sound.
