But to answer the question, I've never owned button flys, and i've been around long enough to remember when they were new and hip. Lame then, lame now.

My fave pair of pants are my M1937 serge wool trousers, with 5-button fly. Made 70 years ago but fit me perfectly.

I've always been a bit suspicious of zippers since I caught my 'self' in them a couple of times when I was a sprattling. The pain while trying to slowly un-zip and release that flesh is quite something. But yes, now I've been 'caught out' and learned, I like the immediate operation.

Why would anyone knowingly choose shorts over pants? Unless you have some sort of morbid fear of your legs getting eaten by snakes there really is no reason for it. I had a pair of shorts once...I wish I still had them so I could burn them.

I don't know about everyone else but I like my shorts loose and high up so I can feel the breeze on my junk without wearing a skirt...
