When comments on a thread are mostly 2-5 sentences, and then a commenter posts 6 paragraphs, I’ve always wondered if anyone actually reads those long, run-on posts. Or do you just scroll past it?

If it's a poorly structured rambling manifesto bent on self aggrandizement...No.

If it's well structured coherent remarks about something I'm interested in...Yes...at least until I get bored.

depends on how much the topic interests me

i dont worry too much about grammar and punctuation -- music is the 'arts' ....if i worried too much about grammar and sentence structure, I could never enjoy listening to the blues

Only @Wasnex multi paragraph stuff because he really has something to say. I even plug his quadratic equations into MatLab or check it manually and he is not kidding. And if @lug (who is the master of one liners and quips) writes something long, that means he is serious and I read that too and all the people I follow.

First 2 sentences of first paragraph, first 3 words of each other one, last 2 sentences.

Depends on the topic. If it's one giant run on paragraph with no punctuation, absolutely not, regardless of topic.

Some posts can be done with a yes or a no. Some posts (explaining technical stuff) need quite a bit of text to do the job clearly. Someone rambling on at length because they can't organize their thoughts (or they're espousing stuff when they don't know what they are talking about) is a waste of bandwidth. Someone sharing unique insight or relevant experience, go for it.

I read long-form articles on the interwebs all the time, so why not here? All depends on the subject, the writer and whether or not it’s interesting to me. And there’s some gold in some of those long posts.

I think putting a TL;DR (too long didn't read) summary at the beginning of a ling post is a good practice though.

Depends on the topic and if the post is in written in reasonably easy-to-read english composition.

Six paragraphs is not a long run-on post if it contains good information. That’s probably less than a 5 min. read, and good info is usually worth 5 min.

When email became standard business communications I quickly observed that most people don’t read all of them. Particularly if more than two points are addressed.

Concision and brevity are your friends.
