I used to write long posts. I think it's sad that "engagement" rather than informational value is the metric, but that's the internet. It's an endless cesspool with little value.
I'd like to think that those of us who appreciate your posts make it worth it at least a little bit.

On topic: I usually read lengthy posts if the posts are written well and add something to the conversation, even if they aren't entirely on the original topic.

I’ll read 3-4 paragraphs if I’m interested in the topic and it’s got some sort of punctuation. More if I find what’s being said very interesting.

I am for sure guilty of scrolling past some of the novels I’ve seen on NBD to go straight to the pics. If I like the pics I’ll probably go back and read the whole post.

When comments on a thread are mostly 2-5 sentences, and then a commenter posts 6 paragraphs, I’ve always wondered if anyone actually reads those long, run-on posts. Or do you just scroll past it?
Long doesn't necessarily mean run-on. Sometimes posters have a lot to say, and it's worth reading. Sometimes it's not. You can usually tell within the first sentence or two. I've learned a lot from some long posts, nothing from others. (Better quit now.)

I typically start reading and then either continue reading or stop and scroll for various reasons. Maybe they got off topic, sometimes it’s just not a helpful/informative response. I know I’m guilty of writing some “novels” lol. You guys have to understand that my wife sends me a hundred text messages to say what should could say in one longer one. So there’s two sides to it I guess.

Long posts, if relevant to me and well-written, I might read.

Long threads that I get into late, on the other hand, I usually read the first few posts and then skip to the last page to see if it's worth more.

Usually after a few pages a lot of threads are so far off track it's not worth the time.

I do. But then, I've always been a reader. I also tend to write a lot, even knowing that most people probably don't read my entire post.

And just in the spirit of the thread....

TL;DR: I do. Also, Lorem ipsum.

"Lets see your P basses..."
Nah, I've got 7, I know what they look like
"If I refin my bass will it change it's tone?"
Really?

Now gear discussion, that's different. always good to hear of honest product review And to see whats out there.

Punctuation and spelling doesn't bother me. What does is the grammar nazis that have go out of their way to throw in critique on somebody that might have a wild auto-check.
