Bloviation. Ya gotta love it — "an army of pompous phrases moving over the landscape in search of an idea." Thank goodness for twitter. Today, reading one virtual side of one virtual page is considered to be tantamount to reading the complete set of the World Book Encyclopedia, in one sitting. The very definition of impossible. I should ramble on some more but what would be the point? I've already lost the audience ;)

"Long" and "run-on" are two very different things, and should not be equated.

"Long" simply means long.

"Run-on" means it has improper structure, largely having to do with poor use of punctuation, e.g. comma splices and/or period omissions.

I will read long posts, if I feel up to it.

I will not read run-on posts.

Exactly! I see a lot of these posts, here and elsewhere, that look just like an over-caffeinated Valley Girl mumbling as fast as possible while never stopping to draw breath. No way I'm going to wade through that. Five or six well-constructed paragraphs each of which contains actual information? No problem.

And the translation from Latin using Google translate... Just because...
(Edited for length... Only the "good" parts...)

The pain itself is the love of the pain..... It is the desire of the weekend to decorate it with the curse of the hated bow. ..... The immune system is now the throat of the kids. ..... Don't miss the price of the fans, that's what he wants. ...... No bears should be in love with laughter, no need for cats. ..... Until then I hate the average person.

That's a strong ending.

Tengo los gatos en mis pantalones... Quiero comer su perro... Ciao.

I usually do because I like to use Talk Bass as a discussion forum and a way to gain a little insight and knowledge. Unless it is a long winded rant about why Fender is bad or Guitar Center didn't hug you enough when you were little... nah, even then I'll read it and roll my eyes. LOL

I do. I have even read years old threads, just to come across a post I like on page 19; just to find out I already "liked" it 3 years ago!

I also periodically go back and read threads I have started (this board nd others), even if the last response was several years ago.

I will also waste time re-reading text message chains from as far back as my phone will allow.

None of this is facetious, all statements are truthful. I'm just an odd duck.

I'm a reader too and have been known to read thirty page threads in one sitting if I find them interesting. I think a person's reading ability also can have a large bearing on his (or her) ability to tolerate long posts.
I've read old threads before and posted a response only to read on and find out I've already responded to it three years ago.

I like that this thread's poll has only three options. If there's more than four, I ignore it.
And I always... ALWAYS... select an option with carrots.
Always.
Sometimes there is more than one carrot option... and I must consider the consequences of my choice on the poll's outcome. On those days... I feel important - like I matter.
