Do you stand while practicing bass alone?

I only sit if I'm attempting to transcribe something or using a slow-motion loop to snag something tricky, & that's because I'm plotted in front of the computer for that.

Standing at all other times.

Don't worry too much about not being able to see the fretboard, that's a habit to break as early as you can - your ears & muscle memory will let you hit the right notes, they just need gently encouraging.

Pete.

I sit 99% of the time. i have my strap adjusted to where the bass feels exactly the same, sitting or standing. I cant really tell a difference in my playing between sitting and standing. I choose to sit while i practice for a few reasons, one being i am practicing more and more (4 to 6 hours a day if time allows) and also because i am on my feet all day at work. the last thing i want to do when i get home is stand for another few hours.

I always stand when practising electric bass. When I sit, I tend to slouch... and energy gets squished. If I have to sit, I try to keep the bass in the same location relative to my hands, arms, etc. as when standing. This minimizes stress on my hands, wrists, fingers , elbows, shoulders (I have mild arthritis & worse nerve issues.) It has also improved my technique. I also found that when using a music stand (standing or sitting), the stand should be high enough that I don't need to bend my neck to look down; I got an extra-tall stand. And I also stand when practising upright bass.

if im writing the song, i sit down and think about it for a while, if im running through songs, i usually stand...but that doesnt last, then i just sit back down. maybe adjust the strap so you can see the frets?

I practice sit, because i have no strap i can stand whit. My shoulder hurt a lot after some minutes stand. So, i need a real strap, for bass. Not a little strap for guitarist...

I can think of a Levy's one, pretty wide, and padded...

place your bass to replicate the same position sitting down or standing up.

I ajust my strap to place the bass exactly at the same place as when I'm playing sitting down. I don,t have any problem anymore
+1
And that way i'm not overextending my wrists

what also helps is a proper stool.

Altho if when you play standing and your bass is at your kneecaps then perhaps you should practice standing only.

For me it's about 50/50. When I sit, however, the bass slides off my leg (sometimes, depending on the sitting position) and my strap always falls off my shoulder, just generally uncomfortable but i still do it. As with the problem with being unable to see the frets, I had that problem for the first couple months when I started out, but I learned that you can see where to play from the side of the fretboard where the frets are filed off. (I probably knew that at first, just didn't register or something.)

Generally speaking, I tend to sit when it's bedroom practice time or for just learning the lines. When it comes to band practice, I'm always standing as that is how I am used to playing and gives me a more comfortable stance.

I practice sitting 80-90% of the time. Half of that time is sitting in an "office chair" at my computer desk and the other half is sitting in a chair in front of a music stand in a spare bedroom my wife set up as a dedicated music room where we all can practice (she and my son play clarinet and trumpet and are better musicians than I'll ever be).

I have been starting to practice standing up more when I'm practicing playing through songs, though. That seems to make a difference.
