Do you think the Longhorn design is cool?

To me they look like the kind of bass one might find at Toys R Us (as part of a package which includes a cheap amp and a cowboy hat).

You're not that far off. They were originally sold at Sears through the Silvertone line. That said, they're a significant improvement over anything you'll find in a toy store. I remember the Synsonics guitars from the 80s and 90s with the built in amp. Those were horrific.

I said earlier, that I put off buying one for a couple of years based on the appearance. Wasn't sure if it was for me. Once I made the choice to get the LH, I wished I'd never waited. It's a solid performer, light weight and the instrument looks just fine. A very nice alternative to FSOs.

Can't wait to get mine. I ordered a black one. Been waiting awhile. Oh well, I'll have to be content with the Sire D5 I got a few days ago.

You’ve done away with the stack knobs! Mine was from the first batch of reissues back in 98 , our local music store had a huge sale and I picked up mine for $200 new. One of the better deals I’ve ever found. It’s seen a lot of use , and is in surprisingly nice shape. Still has the factory strings , about as dead as they could be. It has a nice woody upright thump.

I also researched what flat wounds are suited to this bass, the tuning peg compatibility being the important detail. I can't remember which brand it was, but they're never coming off anyways.
The reason why I removed the stacked controls - I often tweak the controls while playing a song and I just prefer simplicity and this mod lets me do it faster. I wired the pickups in series because it's another preference of mine which I learned from my Stingray. Stronger tone and volume.

Yikes! That red model's price is about 40% higher than what I paid for a slightly used one from L&M. There wasn't a scratch or scuff on mine. Still loving the stock wooden bridge piece.

I have a first version Danelectro Longhorn RI in maroon, another in aqua that someone painted the top with a psychedelic design and a black Jerry Jones version so I guess I have to say yes.

But I also have to say that my favorite Danelectro design is my early '60s Silvertone Model 1444 which I still use. I grew up between the two towns with Danelectro factories and also two Sears stores so Danos were all over around here, along with Airlines from the Montgomery Ward located about a mile from my childhood home.

I wanted to work at the Danelectro factory in Neptune NJ but they closed the year I got my working papers.
