Do you think the Longhorn design is cool?

Here's a clearer shot of the Dyne. Four controls, selector switch, and what looks like an EB3 pup cover for palm resting and playing over the front pup.

That's not what he was playing when I saw/supported Sweet. It was a sort of "coffee burst" colour and just had the two lipstick type pickups. Not four pots either.

Since this thread is only about Looks, I will say that it's the sound of the reissues that proves the bass. As nice looking (or not) as the F holes can be, or the Hondos with a single P, they don't sound the same as a Dan Electro reissue with the higher output (than original) lipstick p.u.'s. I have played the Hondo and it didn't have the 2 p.u. scoop and big upper mid range voice of the reissue and it seemed like junk, an anemic P without sustain. (The Jones probably has the good sound too.) These days I add an MXR Thump to a Longhorn (basically the Rolland echoplex's preamp) and that makes it's output comparable to most passive basses.

I love the practicality of the design. You get 24-fret access on a short scale, with perfect balance and low weight. I don't like the way they look, but I can't argue with the logic of the design.

Cool-looking, yes, but whether that translates into better playability or better sound, I doubt it. I wouldn't pay a whole lot more for it ....

It's very cool on Danelectros, especially in copper/white appliance burst. I don't care for it as a body shape on other basses though (if that makes sense). The body shape is one part of the whole vibe of that particular guitar, with lipstick tubes and masonite. The Hondo and others don't quite do it for me.
