I used to have a Hondo longhorn. Great bass. Well-built, very comfortable to play. Excellent pickups. Nice neck. But I never could embrace the aesthetic. I eventually gave it away to a beginning player.

I'm amazed how negative some players are about a body design. If the body style would make you quit playing bass, then perhaps BASS isn't your thing. I don't care if it's shaped like a turd, if it sounds good, use it. If you like it, buy it.

In 1964 a tv music show called Shindig was on tv , the house band was the Shindogs , and their bass player used a Longhorn , first I had seen , the shape was unique , and forever burned in my memory.View attachment 4850505

They look cool, IMO. I played one in a shop back when the first reissues came out. Had a chance to get one just under $200 new, and I regret not picking one up then. Now a days I keep casually browsing for a used one at a decent price…

the “solid body” ones are actually fully hollow inside, since there are no F holes it’s a sealed hollowbody like a hofner bass.

That’s not what he was playing when I saw/supported Sweet. It was a sort of “coffee burst” colour and just had the two lipstick type pickups. Not four pots either.

Yes. Surprisingly comfortable to play. ALTHOUGH... In my case, I have a strap button on the top horn. I hate basses where the neck side strap button is at the neck heel. But with the button on the top horn, it's very comfortable to play, and extremely light. (Mine is 6 lbs., 1.7 oz.)
